Nightforce reticle

Bottom Fodder

I didn’t won’t to highjack the other Nightforce thread so I started this one
Which of the reticles offered for the Competition model do you prefer for Fclass and why
Thanks

If you run a second focal plane, not many choices, FCR-1
I like the FCR1 for shooting long range bench rest and think it would be ideal for F-Class.
I'm curious in that your answer seems to imply a lot of F-Class shooters shoot FFP scopes.
What scope offers the 50-60 power range and FFP together?

FCR-1 is design for FClass shooting with its 1 moa hash marks for hold overs.
I’ll probably get torched for suggesting that I prefer it for long range Benchrest beyond the DD-2 reticle which IMO seems confusing with big lines, floating thin lines, floating dots and lower floating stacked crosses.

Like some has said the FCR 1was designed for F class which is the main target (both 600 &1k) I would be shooting, the DD 2 I would probably pick if my main target were steel, so the FCR is leading for my pick. So what’s the negatives of the FCR before I order

So what’s the negatives of the FCR before I order

I wish it had a floating dot but that’s personal preference. Other than that there’s no real negative to the FCR, it’s a good usable reticle.

The FCR-1 reticle lines are very fine for older eyes. A friend (age 76) just bought one and found that he cannot use it. I (age 69) tried it and found it to be too much work compared to a something with heavier lines. The Vortex ECR-1 reticle works for me and the March MTR-5 and WFD also work well for me.

I do think NF would sell more competition scopes if they would come out with a reticle similar to the ECR-1 or the above-mentioned March reticles.

My favorite reticle is the MOAK in the Kahles 1050. But if the OP is buying a NF Comp the choices are limited. The FCR-1 is the most versatile choice for F Class. The DDR-1 would be a great reticle if they had just added some stadia lines for hold offs. But I really like of for certain things. Other than that with the Comp your only other choices are a cross hair or cross hair/dot. I like the Vortex ECR-1 but unfortunately the glass sucks in my opinion. I have all of the above scopes and reticles except the 2 NF cross har reticles.

I definitely agree NF Comp is long overdue for reticle upgrades!

I could be wrong, but I'd bet if they brought back the old CH-3 reticle a lot of score shooters would purchase them.

Ffp is good for judging unknown distances but no other real value to me. The reticle gets bigger with magnification. Ymmv but I'd stay with 2nd focal plane scopes at known distances.

the Competition model is 2fp and it seam that all Radicals have .016 lines and the ones with dots the dot is .095, looks like the CTR 3 is basically the old traditional crosshairs, very basic for simple minded people like me. Some here has stated the lines do not show up well against a black target, I’m not disagreeing but would think it would be hard to sell a scope that the lines disappear when looking at a black target. Anymore discussion on that?

If you are talking about the CH-3 reticle, it is the smallest floating center dot that NF ever made. Also, the crosshairs don't intersect, which makes being able to bracket the target a huge plus when the mirage is boiling.
