Interesting Auction

I like to see the sold prices here- https://www.horstauction.com/auctions/results/firearms/

Another is this https://truegunvalue.com/

I quit going to a local auction. Dealer bid on his own guns, to run the prices up.This is NOT LEGAL.

Auctioneer said it's still cost me 10% if i get stuck, buying back my guns.
No bargins at privite property auctions. At 1 auction, handguns were out on display. A Ruger MK1 pistol, got legs and walked away. :D

My FFL wholesale prices ,,on new guns , were ofter lower then the sold auction prices.
The true bargins were found when customers walked in my door, needing to sell.

I accidentally won a local auction on a 8mm Mauser.

I bid $65 just to help them get it going.
Next thing I realized is the auctioneer slapping the hammer and pointing at me saying "SOLD for $65"!!

Barrel was junk. Along with the Bubba-ized stock with electric tape around the wrist.

Stripped it down to the bare action and built a custom 7X57 Mauser for my daughter.

Still, $65 for a Mauser action is a heck of a deal!!

I have gone to other local gun auctions closer to a higher income city and seen absolutely stupid high bidding on things.

I just passed the auction on because there are some interesting guns listed. And their site does have some stuff that sells for a fair price, like CZ and BRNO 22 barreled actions. Like a pristine 4" Model 1950 Smith with fixed sights in 45 acp. Some nifty Smiths in 32 long and 32 H&R Magnum. I did notice today that they are apparently selling guns before the auction. For several guns there is a blank space with Pending the only thing noted. One thing that disappeared is a US Armaments 1903 Colt reproduced with Colt's permission. It retails for $2499.00. The only way it would be a deal is if you had an FFL, drove to the sale, and picked up after the auction to eliminate shipping.

But I can sure wish I had so much money that the price didn't matter!

I am aware that I look at objects much differently than than many people. Perhaps differently than most people.
If an object doesn't serve a particular need or perform a particular function that makes it valuable to me, it has no value.

I'm not interested in things strictly because of it's history or because others value it.

Before someone reads too much into that, people are NOT objects.

I sent out this Colt to be verified and auctioned of at RIA. I having to deal with my passed cousin and left a Colt collection to be sold.

There was a local auction that I couldnt go to. I gave the auctioneer a bid of $500 on a shotgun I wanted. He called me up and I got it for 250. He said bids were coming very slow and to speed things up they went sold quickly on a few items to get people to bid faster. Hard to tell what things will go for.

Holy chit!!
Those look fairly original!

Walker?
Or Dragoon?
RIA said it's probably %100 authentic Walker Colt. It's getting verified and catalogue. RiA said it's a six week process and then it will get auctioned. The guys at the Colt forum helped me out a lot.

It's no wonder Ebay and Gun Broker are considered crooked. Most of the auctions out there are run by people who have no regard for the "rules". One auction house owner told me that the pole next to me had made more bids than anyone on earth. He was shrewd and also made a ton of money. Another one, during the auction, actually said, "Bid is $350. I know the owner of the item and they would not want to sell it for that little, so I am removing it from the auction."

Occasionally, I've found decent deals, especially on something like a BR rifle that doesn't garner much interest from the average buyer at a sale. I bought a very nice older Cruiser type br rifle a few years back for like $175. It was about 50lbs, chambered in 308 with a like new 1.450 ss bbl and a ss Sako AV action. It shot purty good but I parted it out and kept the action. It's gone down the road now but that thing was like new from one end to the other.

But then there are the sales where a 700 bdl with a Loopy scope goes for freakin $3K!

I did win a couple of nice unfired rimfire rifles a while back. The guy had a full set of Anschutz 22lr, 22 mag and 17hmr rifles, all unfired but no boxes. I bid heavy on all three but only got the 22mag. They also had some unfired cz 452's. Same kinda thing. I bid pretty hard on three and won one. I sold it a while back. I did shoot it a bit and it was a tack driver. I didn't get a great deal on either the Annie or the CZ but didn't get ripped either. Both were pristine. I plan to keep the Annie and shoot it a bit. It shoots great too with the right ammo. I haven't shot it a lot at all but I did see a marked difference in what it really liked vs what it didn't...ammo wise.

The old guy had some nice stuff though. Gun enthusiast and woodworker. I bought a custom gun cabinet from his widow outside of the auction. It's pretty impressive. He did nice work.

Ya just never know at auctions. But deals are tough to find at them, for the most part.
