Off Topic- Security Cameras a dinosaur can install.

With the aggressive idiot that is my daughter's ex boyfriend, we got her the Blink system.

Breeze to put the cameras up and link everything together.
My sister paid for her subscription, showing infinite cloud storage. ( Although my daughter is erasing the false flags every week)
I also got her a 356gig memory card.
And you should get her one of those special Sig 365 units too...

We have had the Arlo system for some years now. Actually our system is outdated now and no longer supported technically by the company but the cameras are crystal clear and battery operated with WIFi. We do not have a service contract so there is no monthly charge. My only gripe is that the cameras, being motion activated, begin recording somewhat slowly. Someone is on the front porch for example rather than recording during the approach to the porch.

I’m looking at getting some security cameras around the house. I’m looking at all the “reviews” and ads online and I now have a headache. I don’t know who to believe.
I’d like to be able to view from my phone and get “movement alerts” without paying for a “plan”.
Does anyone have a good suggestion, with personal experience?
Thanks in advance!
Josh
I use a system sold by Revo America it is the Ultra HD 4K it is a wired system very simple to setup and with the phone app I can view the cameras anywhere I am at. you can set up alerts, and they have a grid pattern so only what enters that grid will send an alert.
The picture quality especially the night vision is amazing. I paid less than $400.00 about 6 years ago.

I always get what you do NOT have to PAY a fee for, I would recommend face recognition cameras. Having one that will record to a TVO or something, but if you have to pay for recording storage, well then $$$$ added costs.

I put up a few extra dummy cameras in the open where people can see, the other cameras not so easy to see !!

I like that Amazon blink system. Set up for Wi-Fi and place the battery operated cameras around the home. I can get about 40yds away from the inside camera system. So far so good. I've had it about 3 years now
Our Florida neighbor retired as director of security at Cape Canaveral and he uses the Blink cameras, recommended them to us so I ordered some but haven't installed them yet. He can't praise them enough.

you got some good advice from these guys. i to would like some of these cams at the house and shop. (2 different places). One thing that has held me back is i dont want anyone seeing the inside of my places especially when im there but really anytime. i want to be the only one looking in my place inside. the type cams that go to cloud I dont want as anyone can be watching. I dont have anything illegal or to hide but who knows who mite be watching and what their motivations are. Id say the closed loop sytems are the only way to go for me but then to view through them on your phone the pics have to be sent out on the internet - transferred to a cell system then sent over data connection to my phone. i dont think its secure at all. mabie at least they dont get recorded.
i bought a honeywell smart thermostat some time ago to be able to monitor temp in house when im gone. but i found out your data gets sent through honeywell servers. i never hooked that up. i would like to get some of the wifi switched receps to be able to turn lights on and off via phone. also a wifi cam would be good for the crawlspace of the house. with a closed loop only cam system that hooks to your cable internet all somebody has to do is cut your cable and no more pics to the phone. Bin Rambling i know- hopefully you got something out of it

PS— I like those figure skater girls i bin watching Lately:)
I use two remote plugs on our property. Do not use Hubspace through Home Depot. They ask for way too much information and use it to sell. I took it back. The other is a GE remote that asks for less permissions.

Instant notifications on my phone, and I can look through the history (mostly my daughters cats) on my phone, watch live video if desired, and easily take them of the base and set them around in different places like trying to see the pesky skunk I have hanging around or see what's always after the trash and then snap back on the mount afterwards.

We use REOLINK, can turn the camera on and off and scan with my phone. Pretty good pictures and there is a memory card. You need wi-fi and these pictures are not admissible in court. Have an alert system for both the house and barn. So, if it goes off, we can access the Reolink and it works in the dark. Had my granddaughter and son help me set it up.

Probably with a smart TV. I can share and send the videos to anywhere from my phone but I don't have a smart TV........yet. looks like you can download the camera app to an Amazon FireTV or Fire Stick. I have a Fire stick around here somewhere.

Well maybe just unplug the USB stick and plug it into whatever you want to watch it. That is, as long as you can go through the files on what ever device you plug it into.

i guess this is over my pay grade— Im an old low techie—- dont think my tv has a usb port but mable i dont need one. thanks. ill check into it all.

For a really simple camera I use an old DLink. No subscription, no cloud storage. It records to an SD card in the camera. It is connected to the WiFi if I want notifications or to view it remotely. If I just want recording it does not have to be connected to anything except power. Really simple, pretty cheap. They can be powered from an outlet or battery. Not very smart, ie, it can send many false alarms.

All of this is mostly about privacy vs security.

I also have a Ring camera that is several years old now. The downside to it is the delay between someone coming in frame and how long it takes to respond. The old ad about answering the door remotely is not always true. 10sec to 1 minute delay. But, it has been great on alerts, especially when we are on vacation. It has no local recording and has a small annual subscription. And, yes, Ring has always had their "Neighborhood" thing. It allows sharing video with others in your area. I opted out simply because it was annoying to me. Ring can access any of the cloud storage.

Yes, any of the WiFi systems can be hacked or disabled, just as cell phone service can be locally disabled. Just takes the right equipment. If that level of security is important, get a good security company to give you some advice. At work I had the really good stuff, but, it costs a lot and much of it will be wired with a 24/7 monitor service. I also had a dedicated line which is not cheap. It was a government system, so, yeah, they had access to everything :)

Yes, most cases the company has access to your video and can release it. Yes, your phone can be tracked almost anywhere if the right people want to. Same with your computer usage on the internet. Basically, anything that goes over cell service or internet is accessible. Yes, there are laws about it, but, that really doesn't matter much unless you are going to court. You have to judge if the security the cameras provide is worth the possible loss of privacy.

The 'good' part is that no one really monitors your stuff unless they find a reason to. Heck, maybe posting in a gun forum is enough to get you monitored more closely :)
