Off Topic- Security Cameras a dinosaur can install.

Have a Kyocera flip phone and simple call and text program, no data or pics. It is off except when I want to use it. I can text with it but is a hunt n peck PITA, everyone who has my number knows what I just typed. ;)
Hey!!!! PhilC..... I use one of those. Had it for years...and have been laughed at for years. Keeps on ticking.

Didn't know I am NOT the only "odd" man out.... gee...

If it was just me, I wouldn't have one at all, but, my wife's health issues require me to be accessible at any time.

Gotta admit, it is nice having it sync'd to my truck's sound system so I can call or answer by pushing a button on steering wheel, but I digress, back to security cameras! ;)

I have 20 HD IR color 4k cameras and sixteen aluminum 2'x 3' yellow with black letters signs on my five strand perimeter fence:

Warning Agricultural premises under 24 hour camera survelance.

My cameras have facial, stride, form annd vehicle recognition by color, make and model. With invisible security grid sets. They work on ambient light and do not require a flash. They have cel phone alerts and they see, you see, day or night.
I own a tree farm, most folks in the timber business have gone to HD cameras to watch for wild fires, trespassers, etc.
In FL, you must have written permission to be on another persons property, plus trespass with a firearm on agricultural property in FL is a felony. The owner can detain and seize you and your property. Shooting into or across is trespass.
FL is all fun and games, until it is not.
We still have idiots that think they can go anywhere at anytime, they want, most are tourists.

I’m looking at getting some security cameras around the house. I’m looking at all the “reviews” and ads online and I now have a headache. I don’t know who to believe.
I’d like to be able to view from my phone and get “movement alerts” without paying for a “plan”.
Does anyone have a good suggestion, with personal experience?
Thanks in advance!
Josh
Eufy S340 solar cam. Hooks to your wifi. No subscription fee

The WYZE cameras we use can be viewed on any device you can connect to YOUR wifi. TV, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
No monthly service fee.
They have chips in them, as much data or as little as you desire.
cheap
can set up alerts

Again, we use them mostly for keeping track of our livestock but do have them on the front and back door and garage now.

No data leaves the property at all.

To test these, we set up our son in Idaho to have access. He can view whatever camera we give him access to without issue via his cell phone.

Play back is solid.

For privacy and the price, I am not sure they can be beat.
Not the best camera, but a really good camera.

Not a lawyer, but i understand none of the "Home" camera pictures are admissible.
From what I gather it is the opposite. They can certainly be admissible if the footage meets certain requirements. There’s plenty of information on this out there. Here’s one of many interpretations.

Legal Considerations Surrounding Video Evidence

Admissibility in Court

For video evidence to be admissible in court, it must meet several criteria that ensure its reliability and relevance to the case. The key factors that determine admissibility include:

  • Relevance: The video must be directly related to the case and must provide information that can help prove or disprove an element of the case. If the content of the video does not pertain to the issues at hand, it may be deemed irrelevant and excluded from consideration.
  • Authenticity: The video must be proven to be an authentic and accurate depiction of the events it purports to show. This involves verifying that the video is what it claims to be, with no alterations or fabrications. The party presenting the video must demonstrate that the footage was captured by a reliable source and that it has not been tampered with.
  • Integrity: The video must be free from tampering, editing, or manipulation. Any signs of alteration can lead to questions about the video’s credibility and may result in its exclusion from evidence. The court may require expert testimony to confirm that the video is intact and unaltered.

We use REOLINK, can turn the camera on and off and scan with my phone. Pretty good pictures and there is a memory card. You need wi-fi and these pictures are not admissible in court. Have an alert system for both the house and barn. So, if it goes off, we can access the Reolink and it works in the dark. Had my granddaughter and son help me set it up.
Can you tell me why the pictures are not admissible in court? Quality?

I run a new set of Blinks. The new cameras have much greater range. I have two on the back of my property and they work great. You do lose the audio feature when extended range is in use. The lithium AA batteries last a long time and everything trips my cameras. They also have a new feature where you can put an extended back on the camera and double the battery capacity. That can be very helpful if the camera is mounted on a roof or in some other location that is difficult to reach.

The system has many controls and each camera can be adjusted independently. I think you can put up to 10 cameras on a single base module. Multiple base modules can also be used if more cameras are desirable. They also have some wired options that can include security lighting. I have not used any of these, so I have no opinion on them.

The Blink system used to tell you that a "person" or an "auto" was detected. For the last couple of months this is the alerts that I get:

1. "there is a person bending over in your driveway"
2. "there is a man in your yard with a ladder"
3. "an Amazon driver is carrying boxes to your steps"
4. "a flock of turkeys flew into your yard"
5. "a black squirrel is walking on the fence"
6. "a USPS worker is walking up the walk"

I guess the entire system went AI.

UPDATE - I just got an email that says that the "trial offer" of the new text notices I've been receiving is about to run out. Looks like it was a bait and charge scam by Blink. I already have a paid subscription but I'm not looking to pay more.

I have to set up a chart and take some notes while I read the thread. Thank you all for the input!
Some out of town guests dropped in for a few days and curfuffled my schedule.
