Barrel stamp kit

They've come down at least 2000 dollars since I got mine, and now there is a swarm of smaller less powerful lasers out there that will mark a barrel just fine.

Cricut machine.
Set whatever font and size desired. I just do the minimum of cal and co. Not a fan of turning the barrel into a billboard with neck diameter, freebore, etc. Bought it primarily to cut my own Cerakote stencils with double duty for etching stencils

I have a short but wildly entertaining video on You Tube (Will Henry's Workshop) which shows an old man tediously stamping a 375 Ruger barrel. #46 in the series, I think. I've been doing it the same way for fifty years. WH
That's funny, have watched some of your videos in the past but never connected the youtube with you here. I do it the same way

I've read many of your posts. Clear, concise and sound.

I’m with Aaron, laser is the answer. I have a 30w and have zero regrets. I bought mine used and it was over 4k…now they are much better.

Initially, I bought the etchomatic kit and tried to go that route because the lasers were so expensive. My printer wouldn’t print dark enough to get a good transparency. Got frustrated and figured if I was going to need a new printer the laser was the route, I horse traded my way into it.

On my Bench Rest barrels I just mark them with a Sharpie Permanent marker. Knowing the barrels are easily replaceable. On my hunting rifles engraved or laser etched knowing that those barrels with be on that rifle for years.

That is fine I guess if you are just doing your own stuff for you and never selling or performing work for others (customers). ATF has clear rules with height and depth requirements.

For myself, specs are engraved in my head.
The problem with that is, Someday you will pass on and those in charge of disposing of your stuff will have no idea what caliber/cartridge they are, And they are legally supposed to be marked.

Stamps are pretty cheap, You can do a good enough job yourself to caliber mark your barrels, Don't waste your money on Chi-com stamps though, They generally aren't hard enough to stamp steels.

What kind of stencil tape were you using? Was it the kind you can use in a label maker? If so what brand and model where you using?

Brother P touch printer and the stencil tape they sell for it. It’s like a wax paper and the dot matrix of the printer cuts through to allow for the erosion

Nothing wrong with stamping. It can look just fine if properly done, using spacers where needed and making sure you get the jig perfectly parallel to the barrel so it doesn't end up crooked.

You can get the LaBounty jig, but when I used to use stamps I just made my own from two pieces of aluminum angle and a U-bolt. Easy-peasy.

Hardest part about stamps is remembering 1's don't require a hard strike. 8's you'll probably have to 'wack' 3 times.

Here’s what I use. I had no idea anything about lasers. All I wanted was to engrave barrels. I have no interest in laser engraving anything. If I spent 4K on a laser it needs to be working. And I can only do one thing at a time. Think I have maybe $400 in this total. Works good. IMG_8024.jpegIMG_7904.jpeg

Will this one burn any deeper or is that it? It looks good for $400. Did that include the roller. the barrel is on?
