NRA core mission effectiveness

WHILE TOTALLY AVOIDING ALL POLITICAL DISCUSSION, PER FORUM REQUIREMENTS...

What is your view of the NRAs success level in their stated core mission... firearms training safety and competition?

Their core mission stated here, per Oct 2025 press release::

- Increase in communications with members

-The hiring of a chief operating officer to assist in day-to-day functions

- An app is scheduled to be released to help facilitate those communication needs

- A refocus on core programs like clubs and associations, education and training, and competition

- Doing away with ineffective mailers and sending only quality messages to the members

- Membership benefits like discounts on firearms, ammunition, and accessories

-Putting resources into quality programming rather than quantity

- The merge of membership, marketing, and advancement divisions into a single department

- Changes to NRA publications

In your view, is the NRA doing a good job accomplishing this ? I wanted your view as serious competitors and shooters. Do you see signifucant presence or help at your matches / clubs?

AGAIN.... PLEASE AVOID ALL POLITICAL DISCUSSION.IT IS AGAINST FORUM POLICY.

Maybe my say does not count since I left and plan not to return, but
here goes......It's too soon to ask about the above questions. the Lapierre
stench is still in the air, and my beliefs would hold that it may take several
election cycles to prove out any merit. Ask these questions again maybe in
no less then two years time minimum.

I absolutely agree.

That said.... I been waiting 25+ years for the NRA to do something significant, beyond fundraising.

I think it can be said that it does take time to change things in a organization as large as the NRA , and personally I just a bit tired of those who want "INSTANT CHANGE" and over-night solution "Fixes" !
We are doing a new Board election , and the things that need to be fixed will be addressed by the new Board , or they won't be there very long either .
I see undoing the damage at the NRA the same way as fixing problems within a long-standing corrupt Government . It didn't get that way over-night , and the members are just as much at fault for letting it happen , as those on the inside who were the corrupt , lazy , politicians who stopped working for the Members .
Like trying to turn around a Aircraft Carrier , it isn't going to happen overnight .

What I've seen from the press releases is a greater focus on training, safety, competiotions, etc. Thats good to hear.

Im less clear on what 2A advocacy will look like. Thus far, Id call it largely a failure for all living in blue states.

Your analogy with the NRA & govt has a little different take for me - yes, both take time to turn around, but both became corrupt and unfocused DESPITE what I and others tried to do.

And as above... we've been waiting 25+ years for the NRA to do something more than fundraise.

I understand yer a bit tired of the call for " instant changes." But when ya been calling for such changes most all yer adult life... can you see how thats kinda tiring too ? We're not calling for instant change. We are calling for ANY change at all.

Lapierre stench

My membership is coming due this spring. My first question to them will be " Is Wayne L and those that helped him pilfer money out of the program being prosecuted and are there any efforts to recover the stolen money taking place?"

Simply moving forward without punishing those involved is unacceptable!

I rejoined a while back ("only" because all the local ranges require membership) and I did see one change recently. The Feb 2026 American Hunter actually has some hunting articles in it, as in more than one. I get that they want to blather on patting themselves on the back but yeah the hunting magazine should actually focus on hunting every month. Anyhow on the NRA overall I'm certainly not holding my breath for substantial changes. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though.

The Courts have addressed these questions, how ever not fully to my liking.

Guess I'd have to ask if you have ever run for office as a Board Member , to have "REAL INPUT" , or just complained because nothing was getting done !
IT'S A FAIR QUESTION , FROM YOUR COMMENTARY !

So... I cant just expect the existing board / prior boards to prevent embezzelment and stay mission focused? I've Got to move to washington , d c and try to get on the board and ride herd and mother hen the board?

Am I Also partly to blame for congress failures and corruption because I didn't run for congress?

No I don't think your question is fair at all. Turning it back on me, does not excuse What has happened with the NRA. Every individual ( NRA board) has a personal responsibility to do right regardless of what others (me) do.

If I do wrong / do nothing on the boards / committees that I currently serve on, I can't blame other people for my inaction / wrongdoing by saying they should have run for the board. They have a right to expect me to do what's right.

The question was posed because ; though you stated this wasn't to become political , this entire subject is political , in nature , and you then brought up Congress and the Political ramifications of those issues , without being specific , but yet mentioning corruption , when the reality is that virtually every member here knows which members of which Party stretched the "RULES" to the breaking point , and became multi-millionaires in a record short amount of time .
When a subject is brought up for discussion , and a opposing point of view is raised , that's not the moment to execute the messenger who has a differing point of view , or doesn't jump on the Bad , Bad NRA Bandwagon , because either the issue will become resolved by the members and the NEW Board , or the Organization will die of it's own actions .
I could just as well write a litany regarding that "other" Gun Rights Organization , and of all the commentary made by their members , of misinformation , and false statements , but this isn't the time or place .
Others have a "RIGHT" to express their opinions here , whether they are agreed with or not . I didn't bring the subject up , but I won't be badgered for having a different opinion about how the problem should be handled .
Those who don't like what going on within the NRA should probably just cancel their membership and join that "other" group ! WE allowed the mess to be made , and it is up to US to fix it .

Here's a little bit competition-wise. This is pretty much about 2025's NRA Nationals.

NRA was(is, whatever) losing competitors at their national championships. 2025 NRA Across the Course (XTC) nationals had 24 show up. An XTC Regional can pull that many or more.

The NRA had left Camp Perry in 2017 for Camp Atterbury. In 2025, they moved the Nationals to Lodi, WI, saying they'd move it every three years. Well, now, the XTC Nationals for 2026 is scheduled for Coalinga, CA.

No NRA representative showed up to the 2025 XTC Nationals, leaving everything on the local club to run. The match winner, aka "the National Champion," didn't get his trophy plaque for the Overall Win until a few months later, after attempting to contact NRA Competitions twice.

I've heard of other unhappy folks in the Highpower prone arena (mid, long-range/Palma) as well as smallbore regarding NRA's movement and operation of various Nationals.

CMP has effectively left NRA in the dust.

NRA has the historical trophies that folks shooting Highpower want their name on, but, again, only 24 people showed up to vie for those trophies. Meanwhile 362 people showed up for the "CMP Nationals," with no historical trophies, just plaques and clear plastic awards. Same shooting type, same number of shots.

NRA's been dropping the ball on competitions and competitors are speaking with their feet.

No idea if NRA can turn this ship around.

Thats on point, what I was looking for, as to the competiton side of things. I recognize NRA fixing that may take some time. Be really sad if they are not able to.

There were over 600 shooters at the Quigley Rifle Match last time I was there. That is a shoot that has NOTHING to do with the NRA on purpose. They are member driven (as opposed to driven away).

Some of this parallels NHRA drag racing. The members pay to be a part of it but have zero say in anything that happens. In fact, the rank and file Sportsman competitors have seen fewer opportunities due to reduced car entry quotas because of live TV time constraints.
