My Holly Grail Revolver

I had a S&W 986 Pro Series that I bought second hand at a local gun store. As soon as I felt the trigger I could tell a ton of work had been done on it. Better as far as as accuracy to any handgun I have ever shot, much less the best trigger. Got to having light primer strikes. Changed out everything my local gunsmith could do. Sent it back to S&W three times. Third time they told me they couldn’t fix it and sent me a new 986. Broke my heart.

I Always wanted a 1952
.38 Target Masterpiece 5 Screw .
Found a really Nice one, great shape,
clean, smooth & tight.
Target Hammer, Trigger and Sights.
Now I realize I never shoot Bullseye,
so I’d like it to go to a good home some day.

I bought a used Stainless El Darado 10" 357 Super Mag, then sent it back to Chimney Rock to get it factory rebuilt, back to as new and oh my, was it ever a sweet shooter and a beauty. My eye sight went, south. So I sold it to another revolver shooter. I chose the El Dorado because FA did not make a 357 Super Mag and the El Darado was made like a FA with bronze cylinder bearings, cylinder bore reamed, Iron Sights, etc.
Not only are they out of business, but Chimney Rock, NC was near totally destroyed as a town in the last river floods there.
Pictures are on my PC.

Another one that I wish that I had back. I had a 25-2 rebarreled with a 4" Combat Sight 25-5, 45 Colt Barrel. Smith and Wesson made a few of the 4" Combat Sight 25-2 revolvers, but they are scarce as hens teeth. It was very slick. The 25-2 was in as new condition, and the replacement Barrel was new. It looked like a new 4" 25-2. I priced it way high one day, and way high was not high enough. The old boy got out a roll of $100 bills and payed me. Pricing it was a serious mistake.

With regards,
357Mag

I started with a pristine 686-4 6in and put a triji 1 moa rmr on it to ping steel at 100-200 off a rest but it aggravated my wrist arthritis. So I will be selling it shortly. I also put a 2.5x scout scope I had on that 686 and shot a surprising to me 3x group at 100 with not so great handloads. I think this is the diff between the older and newer Smiths.
The 66 is smaller and lighter and funner to shoot! The balance is perfect for offhand shooting. A keeper!

Honestly revolvers are outdated technology to me. I know that's probably sacrilege to some people , but that's the way I think of it.

So my holy grail revolver would probably be an original near perfect condition Colt Peacemaker. Valuable to me only for its histotical significance.

Much like the US rifle M1 is a completely outdated, ancient technology, largely impractical rifle, but I will never ever sell my 1943 Springfield, M1.

Good revolvers= no moving parts to malfunction with something as simple as limp wrist= no safety or variable trigger pull= for someone who dont train like tier 1 military= like most of us = who would only need 2-4 shots in a civilian situation

1. I don't like revolvers. Especially that long hard 12 lb first trigger pull. Then a 3 lb trigger pull. Thats pretty variable. Striker fired guns have the same trigger pull every single time. Sa/ Da semis are about the same in trigger as revolvers.

2. I train regularly, specifically , so that I can perform under pressure and won't have those user induced errors.

3. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

4. I don't train , and I don't own firearms solely for civilian self defense.

Get me that Colt Peacemaker, and i'm all over it. :)

Negative... the trigger pull is always the same on a revolver when shooting it double action, the first shot is the same as the last. You are thinking of double/single action semi auto pistols. The only time a revolver can be shot in single action is if you manually cock the hammer back.

No Im speaking of DA revolvers first shot, hammer down.

Yer pulling my leg, right? You are familiar with double action revolvers long trigger pull , when the hammer is down and not cocked , right? You don't go around with your revolver With the hammer cocked in your holster , do you ?

The DA revolver is the same as DA / SA semis. I mean , other than having to cock the hammer for every single shot fired with a revolver to get the same trigger pull as you can with a semi. . Not ideal for follow up shots in a self defense situation.

In contrast to both, the striker fired semi has the exact same trigger pull every single time.

If your manual of arms for a self defense firearm is to have to draw the gun from concealment , then to cock the hammer , then to aim the gun and then to pull the trigger , you're already dead against a criminal who's already at the low ready. Incidentally , the whole point of a red dot is to speed up the process of target acquisition over iron sights.
