Beautiful morning at Deep Creek

Cold weather tuning continues at DC, @tom was kind enough to bring his AI gun for some scope checking on Sunday.
The season is inching closer and I’m getting excited.
Now to get rid of this damn vertical..

Jim

I previously mentioned testing scopes and finding what we considered a slight reticle shifting in scope number two, after a conversation with the service rep I sent the scope for evaluation and service on 1/5.
Today I received a E mail confirming the scope had been serviced , tested and now on its way back with a clean bill of health.
I also received a video of test results I thought interesting enough to share
The main take away for my own situation and personal opinion is the scope base to rail fit and is a critical part of the equation.
The slightest misalignment of even the thickness of a piece of paper could be relevant to a long range application.

Care to go into more detail on that?

(It’s kinda hard to describe’ ) but when I placed the scope on the checker and tighten it down, it didn’t feel as positive or clean of connection as the first scope I put on. It just didn’t seem quite right and after the series of shots we noticed the rear base screw wasn’t fully torqued, after loosening and re torqued the shift was the opposite direction leaving a feeling of just how sensitive that connection can be. Was that the root issue IDK I’m just a shooter.
My apologies for the poor description…
Anyway the company validated my concerns and using their service methods followed by their testing methods couldn’t re create the symptoms I had sent the scope in for.
Obviously their test methods vary from ours and I don’t fully understand their system, leaving somewhat of a leap of faith but that might be a good conversation for another time.

To me the only thing that matters is how they shoot, I don’t require anything else.
Perhaps just taking them apart and back together is enough to get the job done.
The customer service is very courteous and prompt. A phone conversation before and after to discuss the service, what more do I need ..

Can’t speak for all instances… but the video posted by @JFrank convinced me that the scope being tested was holding POA after multiple impacts. Whether it was recorded “as received” or after repair is not indicated.
As per my phone conversation with the service supervisor, the tech repeats the ( beat the hell out of it ) test after turning the turrets as well as zoom once the service is complete.

That’s the extent of my information.

Scope confidence is required on the target and also between our ears. If it works it works. Nice job with the scope checker Jim.

Plenty of snow in the high country, but just ice at our range for the moment. Feb - March are asskickers yet to come.
The somewhat surprising part for myself is that beside some f class guys, there’s only been a couple of br guys tuning in this good weather.

I’ll add some 1000 yard primer testing from the morning of the 18th where the air was again cold and damp but the results keep me moving forward.
It’s nice to see groups in the 1’s again.
Morning Jim
Pat Barrett here. I changed my user name.
I tried to follow your primer testing but I sort of didn't understand the notations on the target, Could be me though. The grouping looks really good for that distance! Jim what power optics are you using to see that far?

No worries, I don’t always follow it myself.

I use a 15-55 night force with the bra and 6.5-24 on the dasher.

Pat, your post has made me aware that I’m not being very clear these days and likely I’m the only one not seeing that, maybe Alzheimer’s setting in so my apologies to the fellas that read this crap and wonder WTH is this dude talking about.
Again my apologies

When I was in grammar school we each had to pick a state and develop a "book" (marble note book) about it. I chose Montana believe it or not. When I saw the posting about Deep Creek I immersed myself in my memories and in that series of photos. Just wonderful....
I'm going to put it on my bucket list to get out there and shoot some long range one day.
Ill be 70 this year so I better get busy.

BTW: Forgive my ignorance but can you tell me what is a Dasher and what does the letter A stand for above in 6 bra? I have a 6BR. I just was wondering.

cu,
Pat
