Budget Ammo For the New XTC Shooter

Part of my role as a Highpower chairman for our club is to promote the sport and assist people who want to give it a try. To that end, I manage two club service rifles for beginners to borrow, and those rifles use only factory ammo. The club, or even myself personally, will subsidize some of the ammo cost, so price matters. I’ve been using the past few weeks to try to discover inexpensive ammo that works well enough to give those newbies plenty of reps without breaking the bank.

Probably the best bang for the buck is Palmetto state 77gr ammo.

Be aware that PSA makes two versions of this; the one with an unknown 77gr OTM for $11.99/20 and one with the Sierra 77gr OTM for $16.99/20. And, I think, but I am not sure, that they make a one using the Sierra 77gr TMK.

They also do that with the 55gr Sabre black tip and the 55gr Vmax. I found the Sabre to be very accurate in two of my rifles, but they did not expand.

If you find the Sierras and/or Vmax in stock, buy what you can afford, because it is mostly out of stock.

Yep I’m aware, we tested all 3 psa offerings last year. 75gr, 77gr and 77gr smk. The “unknown” 77gr is made by hornady and being sold as the aeromatch. Seeing more guys using the psa stuff on the shortline at nationals at camp perry.

That's good to know. I was amazed at the groups I could shoot with their stuff, and I always keep some around.
