Going from F-O to AR-Tactical…..the change in Trigger Pull may be the biggest challenge to get used to. Even at near max AR-Tactical weight, the whole rifle will move when you begin to press the trigger…..you may even find yourself occasionally checking to make sure the Safety is not still on.

Truth, right here. I've shot a few matches in the AR Tactical class, and I'll admit to checking the safety once or twice . . .

I picked up a Geisele two-stage for future use, so the trigger will remind me every time.

That 1 MOA X-ring sure looks inviting, even at 16X magnification!

The new categories are really good for the sport. At 1000 yards, with new platforms, does the potential or likely increased shot dispersions worry the e-target owners? Where I shoot we see e-target sensors shot up at most every yardage and it is costly and sometimes on the F-Open dedicated practice targets…
Im not being a negative nelly.. just wonder what ways a club may mitigate damage.

A club, of which I am a member, has a price list of the parts, and will charge the the shooter that hits them. The club only used the e-targets for matches, so it's easy to figure out who hit it.

The general rule is 'If it's downrange it'll be shot' => if a club keeps the etargets up for general use, they will be hit => need to plan for the expenses.

I use a high speed match trigger with all the pull on the first stage. The second stage breaks clean without a whole lot of thought. Pull to the wall, and then press through for the last 12oz or so to complete the shot. It's not the 2oz of my open rifle, but it breaks clean, and I'm not shooting for 1/2 moa at a thousand.

I guess I’ve never used a two stage trigger. How can you break a 4.5 lb first stage without the lighter second stage tripping ? Is there a bunch of slack after the first stage so you don’t inadvertently trip the second stage ?

You need to feel a good 2 stage to understand how the first part takes up one part of the sear and then holds until the slight extra touch is added. A Geissele NM trigger can be tuned very nice for this game. I will say going back to a light single stage after shooting a 4.5 # service rifle 2 stage, you will pull through and have a surprise detonation lol. . Dry fire a few times when you get back on a bolt gun with light trigger.

I agree. But people showing up never having shot the distance need to qualify somehow in my opininion

Maybe some steel sight in targets for new shooters to get a zero. But they should be zeroed before the match.

So how does a match director test it to be sure it meets the 4.5 lb requirement. I assume it won’t hold a 4.5 lb weight ?

Yes it does. They have a check weight on a metal hook that goes on the trigger. Then you pick up the rifle vertically and see if the trigger holds the 4.5 pound weight.

It is the total pull of the two stages that is measured. You are still applying the 4.0 pounds that got you to the second stage, it is just another 0.5 pounds over that to get the sear to break.

A 2 stage trigger is additive. First + second stage weights = total weight. The weights are set independently. Most of the time in an AR the first stage weight is set by selecting an appropriate weight spring and the second stage will have a progressive weight adjustment. Ala Geiselle NM 2 stage or MK 2 stage, etc. Other 2 stages (like a Rock River) are completely set by the hammer and trigger spring stiffnesses and the 1st and 2nd stage weight bias is set by the trigger geometry.

If I was building a dedicated upper for this discipline I would use a chamber with a long enough freebore to allow for high BC bullets to be seated far enough out to get the bearing surface of bullet out of the combustion chamber of the case. Thus allowing you to take full advantage of capable performance of the cartridge.

That's why we require a qualifying at 300yds prior to using the 600yd range.

I think masters and high masters should be scored on the f class target. Real easy with e targets. Level the playing field with the new shooters.

Got to be able to get On-Target in a couple shots. After two shots….back to the 100 yard line to confirm the 100 yard zero (and figure out what going on/wrong). Then back to the 600 yard line with MD watching/assistance,

Some folks have previously expressed concern that the MR-1FC should be used.

Honestly, it does not matter to me as long as all the AT-Tactical shooters are on the same target (and the actual target matches the Shotmarker)…..
