Thanks for the tip and for admitting to (almost) making a mistake. Seems like what with the way the user must use the alignment rod, it's an accident waiting to happen. Since I'm often so absent-minded, I would try my damnedest to find a way to set up some kind of automated tagout/lockout arrangement...like for example, attaching some kind of flag to the alignment rod that would block my view of the target...

Accidents do happen. I almost had one. I have a rifle range in my basement, and I was getting ready to test a new subsonic 300 Blackout load with my Magneto Speed Chronograph. I had put the Alignment Rod in (through the can and about an inch into the barrel) to confirm the alignment of the Magneto, and ALMOST forgot to take it out. It was close. I then did some research, and I'm very happy I bought a rod made out of carbon fiber. - The next thing I did was to wrap bright red tape around the rod, and I will be much more careful in the future. - And by the way...I'm still very pissed at myself.

Why did you put alignment rod in barrel I always put mine on the bayonet so the top of rod is even with bottom muzzle hole or suppressor

I’ll add one to the blunders. Somewhere around 2010 ish I was at the range (was the only one there) doing load work up for my new .243AI. I used a laser bore sighter to position my CED M2 chrono. I had a sequence such that I wouldn’t forget to remove the bore sighter before firing. Somewhere, somehow I got out of sequence and forgot the bore sighter and fired a shot. Sounded funny and knocked the chrono over. (I hadn’t realized at this point that I forgot the bore sighter). What the H__L? Got up to inspect what happened and noticed the brake was missing! Found it near the chrono. I was lucky. Started out as a 26” barrel, it’s now a bit less.
I placed the bullet in the muzzle to show how the bore had expanded.

I've been pulling the bolt and squinting down the bore before chambering a round before firing. Just to make sure a gremlin didn't make the bore a home. I know there isn't anything in there, but I've been known to do stupid things. Haha!

This was a bore sighter left in the barrel.

I just had a guy tell me he broke a bolt handle off. This was alarming because I tigged it on and timed it perfectly. I asked him how it happened. He told me he was fire forming virgin brass.....you can imagine how skeptical I was at this point.

He was filling the case with 30 grs of 4350 and sealing the necks with Vaseline. The amount of pressure was incredible.

Good grief!! That Feller was definitely FORMING brass. Hope you got him up to speed on how close to the edge he was playing.... John
