I have a custom build Rem 700 BDL clone in a Bell and Carlson tactical stock. I only use the rifle as a single shot one, never using the magazine. A while back, I put a single shot follower on the rifle, to make it easier to load single shot. I simply placed the single shot follower on top of the magazine spring and it has worked great.
I would like to put this action and barrel assembly into a Benchrest single shot stock. I’m not sure what I should do about the follower though. The one I have is sold everywhere and appears to be made out of aluminum. My concern is, if I glue the follower in place permanently and it wears down, how will I replace it easily? Is there one someplace that is made of steel, or something a bit more stout than this soft aluminum? Or, how can I mount the aluminum follower in the action, so that I can easily get it back out, if it’s permanently mounted wears down?
Thanks so much for any info you might be able to offer.
