Question regarding opening up bolt face from PPC to 308 Boltface.

Question for the gunsmiths,
I have a PT&G Bolt for a Remington 700 that is a PPC bolt face with an M16 style extractor...can this bolt face be opened up to accept 308 based cartridges and still operate correctly with the M16 extractor or will the M16 extractor create a problem?

Thanks,
Gene

I'm just a guy with sharp tools, but I'd send it. Looks like it'd be OK. I've opened a few up no problem... but let the experts give the final answer.

FWIW, from the pic, that appears to be a Sako style extractor. To answer your question, yes, it can be opened up and if it gives any problems, it's an easy fix if so. Discuss it with your gunsmith. It can be addressed a couple of ways and I don't really think one is better than the other. So, talk to your smith and see how he prefers to go about it.

Ya, the PPC is .455 so opening it up for the .473 sounds like it will work...just don't know if it will be too much force to get the M16 extractor to clip over the rim. The M16 is a more aggressive style extractor than the Sako...but I imagine a little work on the extractor could be performed too.

And to answer Mike's question...It is an M16 and NOT a Sako extractor...if you can magnify this pic you will see how long the extractor is in the bolt body.

Thanks
Gene
