Got real tired of waiting for the Charge Master to drop a powder charge. So I dug out the ol RCBS Uni-Flo bought in the mid 70's. Also my 5-10 scale bought at the same time. Using H380 loading 22-250 it was dead nuts on. Checked the first ten then one in five. Always good. Never missed. And was a ton faster than waiting on the Charge Master. Have been thinking about a Harrells but my re-think that.

seems i havent seen you in awhile zilla? how far do you shoot? seems like the majority of my shooting years i used a beam scale/measure— i wonder now how cocnsistent those loads were. most were prob shot at 100 yds or less so it was probably good enough. now with LR shooters wanting to get it tothe kernal i wonder if my beam scale can do it. some say they do. ive got a A&D 120 and auto trickler now. its about the same speed as throwing low out of a measure and trickling upfor me. i have a redding and thought of a harrel also but the SRBR guys i think are weighing more and more. so a harrels wouldnt help me i dont think. i do try to use powders more that meter well for pistols and ARs ect. so i just throw that type. i am gonna check beam scale to AD soon to see the comparison.

Beam balance = .1 {10th of a grain}
A&D i-120 = .02 {one granule of Varget}
A&D weighing to hundredth of a grain and beam scale to a tenth of a grain.
A&D better by the power of 10

yes thanks— i knew that stuff however some people have beam scales that have been worked on and some use methods to see the pointer better. some claim to be able to see the pointer move with one kernal deposited. i think a person could get a beam scale that good but i think for me it would take alot more effort than the digital readout on my A&D. i find i rarely use my beam scale these days.

You forgot the part about not being able to shoot the difference. Find a load that has a little cushion on either side of the target weight and live happily ever after.

I retired my chargemaster for the same reason - too slow and I wasn't convinced of the quality of my loads as evidenced by results at the range. Switched back to a powder thrower and trickling up using a digital scale. A definite improvement in both load time, load quality, and my confidence in what I've loaded. Using previous load data for dependable loads my group sizes, ES, and SD numbers are all better.

Depends on the yotes or the Pdawgs. Sometimes close sometimes far. Farthest maybe 450. Gone as far as 650.

Hoorah for us Dinosaurs!! I’ve resisted joining the equipment race! My only upgrade over the years was to buy a Parker tuned scale. With ball powders, my RCBS thrower will drop very accurate charges, sometimes a thousand in a row when I’m doing pistol rounds. Makes 223 plinking loads a breeze!

since thats the case I would be wanting my powder charges as close to the same weight as possible. JMO—- i never had a chargemaster— how long does it take to drop a charge? how accurate is your beam scale? Im gonna dust off the beam scale and give it a workout soon.

If you’re talking about the battery powered vibration trickler, I bought and tried one for a while. Now it sits in a drawer and I’m back to my old hand crank trickler.
thanks for that info. that hand cranker will keep the fingers in shape.:) i have a few somewhere

I promise you guys once you get the Dandy tricker set right to move the kernels down the tube you won’t want anything to do with the hand trickler.
Yeah, it does work well. Mine went in the drawer because my wife thought it was “noisy “. We listen to audiobooks. She’s in her chair and I’m ten feet away at my reloading desk. When I hit the button, she’d hit the roof! Just my personal problem with it.

yeah i dont wanna use a hand tricker now that i have a V3 but i need to get the tube set better as i sometimes have to hand turn it anyway or fish a kernal outof the cup

Oh okay, that’s a smart move.
Another marriage conundrum, you don’t know when the wife wants space or attention?

Even with tuning the Chargemaster, I found years ago I could throw/trickle faster than than the Chargemaster. It was also usually more accurate. Anymore, the CM collects dust and is occasionally used to verify charge weights from the 505.
