Which kit do y’all recommend for lapping? I need a 30mm.
I have been using a Wheeler kit.Which kit do y’all recommend for lapping? I need a 30mm.
If you bed them how is there deformation?Glad to see this back.
How is everyone checking rings before and after lapping? Deformation of the rings when tightened around the scope has to be taken into account.
I would be much more concerned with the possibility of deforming the scope tube than the rings. Whatta Hobby! If you bed them how is there deformation?
If you bed them and you deform anything your way over tightening them.
And the madness continues. In 50 years of competitive shooting I have never heard another shooter say my rings deformed my scope tube because the rings are bad. This does not include the guy with big forearms and a breaker barrel tightening the screws. But then again I don't sell lapping bars and belive in common sense. Yes I bought these rings properly sized but I going to make them just a wee bit bigger.I would be much more concerned with the possibility of deforming the scope tube than the rings. Whatta Hobby!

I try to stress-free bed my one piece base. I apply Kiwi release agent on screws and action, rough up the underside of the base, apply MarineTex, lightly tighten screws to get the bubbles out then loosen the screws a couple of turns to make sure the base isn't flexing. On actions with removable bases, the bases should be bedded for maximum contact and to equalize the base heights. Then you can mount the rings and check contact.
I'm going to be bedding some bases today, in fact.
Good shootin'-Al
With bases bedded correctly, even modestly priced rings suddenly get pretty good.I try to stress-free bed my one piece base. I believe that breaker bar tighten of the ring screws is the biggest issue with deforming a scope tube. And then once the scope is removed there is the huge ugly gouges in the paint and dents to go with it.And the madness continues. In 50 years of competitive shooting I have never heard another shooter say my rings deformed my scope tube because the rings are bad.
