308 Lapua Palma brass questions

What are most folks using for primers with the SRP 308 Palma brass?

Working up loads with both and comparing but hoping that standard GM205M will 'win' since I have a good stash of those.

I've got very good results with CCI 400's and Rem 7.5's as well with the AR-Comp powder I use most and even works well with IMR-4064 pushing 169 SMK's.

71/2, 450, BR4
I like them for the thicker cup, on full loads.
Have used Win but mostly in a lighter load, they still seemed fine.
The 71/2 gave good performance with 155.5 bullets in the 3050 fps loads. That was with 8208 powder.
450's with Varget on 208 grainers are giving low SDs but only going 2625 fps good groupings so figure to stay at that speed.
Same Varget load for 185's with 450's or BR4 is giving Same performance.
They would be My top 3 picks based on 5 or 6 yrs shooting palma brass.

I used 450s & 7.5s for years in Lapua Palma brass. Now I'm running Alpha OCD SRP brass, with 205Ms. Lowest ES/SDs I've ever had. Some - maybe a lot - of that is probably changes in my loading methods over the years, but I'm pretty sure the 205Ms aren't hurting me any either.

I'm currently having excellent results with RWS sr primers.
I've also had similar results with BR4 and Federal AR Gold Medal primers.

According to Salazer (if my memory is correct), too hot of a primer will defeat the purpose of the Palma brass. Fed 205m and CCI 450s will run but are hot in my experience.

I tried the old Wolf SRMs in Palma, but they were to mild to get good ignition. I quit using my Palma brass because all things equal (aside from the primer size) I lost velocity on the same output charges. My powder for 308 is Varget for what it's worth.

Palma brass normally takes a little more propellant to achieve similar speeds to lrp brass. Send me any of that palma brass you don't like. I use it by the case.

Been shooting .308 TR with Lapua SRP for eight years now , and have used only the Rem 7 1/2 BR Primer for the last five years with excellent results . Have never had a bad primer issue , misfire , or any other primer related malady .
I run them with primarily VV150 , but have also used AA 4064 , IMR 4064 , Varget and H-4895 .
Bullets are generally Berger 185 Target , Berger 200 Hybrid Target .

With a stout load of Varget pushing a 155.5 Berger at 3000fps I have had best results with CCI 450 and Fed 205MAR. Have used 7 1/2 with acceptable results

CCI 450’s, H4895 {44gr}, 168 A-Max, Peterson brass {First edition with the “Palma” head stamp before Palma told them that they were violating copyright on the name}
One hole groups at 100 meters {110yds}
Varget just a bit too slow and gettting a lot of muzzle flash due to powder still burning out the end of a 24” barrelled Steyr.
Once switching to the H4895 {AR2206H} complete burn as well as increased accuracy.

Im running CCI450s with a spicy charge of N150 and 200.20x. Its been know to pierce the softer primers like 205m and Rem 7-1/2 so i use the hardest cup i have. Velovity of 2700 was my goal and i hit that at 44+g. Causing some brass issues but they hold without ejector or extractor marks but this is a 2013 F-T/R chamber with 0.180 throat.

I did notice that I had to switch to the smaller diameter decapping pin on my sizing die.

Depends on the brass, and the die.

Lapua Palma brass had the small PPC/BR sized flash hole. Redding Type 'S' F/L bushing dies can use a smaller diameter pin... but I can't count the number of times that that pin + a tiny bit of crud made it a tight enough fit that it pulled the pin right out of the two-fingered collet on the end of the stem. Get done sizing a batch of brass, only to find that half (or less) aren't actually de-capped. Then have to go back and search for the offending case that has my decapping pin still trapped in it! I very much started to prefer dies that use a shouldered decapping pin at that point! Another 'fix' is to go through and use a flash hole reamer to open the holes up - not a lot, it ends up being something like 61-62 thou, rather than 59 thou - but it's just enough that I never had the decapping pin go walk-about on me again.

Or you can just use something like Alpha OCD SRP brass, which has the 'large' (~80 thou) flash hole and don't worry about it ever again.
