Best custom 700 action?

Trigger hangers are nice if you think you are going to have to swap a trigger in the middle of a comp and your action is a glue in, but except for BR, it's probably not needed.
But the benefit is that you can time the trigger with different size hangers, but not all manufacturers have different hangers for that.
The downside is that not all stocks/chassis can take a trigger hanger without some slight modifications

You don't need a trigger hanger for a TT Diamond. And 700 clones have a side bolt release and not the button like a Remington

The ARC CDG has an adjustable trigger hanger so you can turn a set screw and time the trigger. But it's 70* throw.

Honestly, I'd find whatever you can in stock and for a great price and go for it.

These are ones I own that have integral rails and are 90* (some have an option for a shorter throw bolt as an add on/replacement). You can't go wrong with any of them.
Defiance Deviant (but I'd probably go with the Ruckus so you could get prefits if you wanted to in the future)
Lone Peak Fuzion
Kelbly Prometheus
Impact 737

Bolt throw I don't care one way or the other, standard 90 is ok with me, as 75 and 60 just feel kinda weird since I've used the 90 for all 30 years of my life already. 2 or 3 lug, that doesn't really matter to me as I don't know enough difference to go one way or the other honestly. I would like to use a trigger tech trigger that will go down to 8 oz to 1# so probably need a trigger hanger for that.
If you want a 90 degree bolt throw you'll want a 2-lug action. Most 3-lug are going to be 60 degree bolt throws.

TriggerTech triggers seem to do just fine without a trigger hanger: that's what I have on my Origin and they're doing fine with standard pins.

Absolutely, both shouldered and barrel nut. @urbanrifleman has you covered there including some really nice long options in 6mm: https://theurbanriflemanstore.com/shouldered-prefit-barrels

Nice. I would prefer the shouldered prefit versus the barrel nut, as I think it's hideous and just reminds me too much of a Savage lol.

Also not sure if I'd need a single or double ejector? Don't know the difference there either. Or is that just the bolt face for like say a RUM based case?

So when it asks what bolt nose you want, it lists semi cone (standard) or recessed (remage) I'm not sure what that means, or what I would want to get? I want a barrel chambered by my smith first and foremost, with the 2nd option later down the road for prefits. Can you do prefits on the semi cone (standard) or just the recessed (remage) which I'm assuming IS for prefits?

I think I got what I want/need figured out. I have it in my cart. Just want to double check if there's anything I'm missing? $1100 isn't to bad. Although I haven't even began to research all the other recomended actions...

$1,100 for a custom action is pretty good. You can easily spend double that, and given that you're coming from a standard Remington I think you'll be very happy. Re. you're specific questions about bolt face, that's something you should ask your gunsmith, since he'll be making your first barrel.

Re. the barrel nuts, I understand not liking the look. There's several out there that are much more stealthy than the standard Savage nut, so that may be an option. Mine get hidden under a tubegun forearm, so it's not something I have to worry about :D

I always had great luck with Stiller, Defiance, Kelbly, Pierce. A lot of times it boiled down to availability. I have 4 or 5 Rifles with Stiller actions and they're all 1/4 moa or better but that brings barrel selection to the forefront and that's not what this thread is about!
What vintage are your Stiller actions? I have an original Predator that has served me well. But the center fire product line has been sold I believe at least two times, the latest acquisition was by Horizon Firearms.

Looking at a full custom build for my next project. All my current builds are from R700s I've had, and 1 Weatherby Vanguard. While their is nothing wrong with them and they shoot, I'd like to try a custom action next. With that said, there are soooo many choices these days. All I know is I want a 700 type footprint for the aftermarket support (stocks/triggers) and I want one of the top tier actions. Rifle would be used for long range hunting, steel, and maybe PRS.

Also, does a guy go with a removable bolt head if he doesn't plan on switching calibers? I've read some good and bad on them. I guess something about more moving parts and potentially less accuracy? Is that true or no?

I also would not be doing pre-fits. I prefer blanks that are chambered from a smith to my preferences.

So with all that said, what are say the top 3, 700 clone type actions and does a guy want a version with a swappable bolt head or not?

Thanks guys!

And then in the future when you say “hey that new cartridge is cool but I will need a new action as the bolt head is different” or just want to try another well known caliber then remember not thinking you need an easily changed out bolt head.

And no it doesn’t negatively effect accuracy at all. I really like the Zermatt actions for this reason and I can use my .223, 6ARC, and larger calibers all on the same action.

But if you don’t care about that then some others like the Impact or Zeus or similar will do fine also.
