Boss's Hunting Rifle

Many guys that work at the gun store are clueless

Often low paying jobs that are hard to fill. From my experience working in a fly fishing shop years ago, the boss is usually happy just to get someone who'll show up to work everyday :D

No, he is my Captain, he is not new to shooting, he can alllllmost outshoot me in every discipline
From AR to Pistol, etc
--- but is new to "Long Range" shooting
While I have been long range shooting for 30 years, so being the intelligent guy he is
he listened to my advice for a first "Long Range Rifle"
---
and may I ask, Why is it, that every person who is an excelled marksman
MUST BE competing?
That takes, extra time, money, time away from family and other duties which are far more important than some trophy
People tell me I should be competing, Ok then what?
What if I do?
What do I get?
You gonna bow down?
probably not right?
A pat on the back and good for you
I dont need to pay money, spend driving time, time away from work etc for a pat on the back
And some trophy is gonna sit on a shelf and collect dust
I cant eat a trophy or pay my bills with a trophy
We dont even earn our entrance fees back plus the ammo, plus the rifle build cost plus the price of ammo to get us to that level of being able to compete.
So lets say I win first place?
Then what? So?
---
You don't know how many guys I know that are secretly, so good if they competed, they would be in top 10
My local Pastor being one of them in Pistol Discipline, the most unsuspecting guy can wipe the floor with most pistol shooters
So not everyone, needs to compete, to be good
For many of us, it is more of a personal accomplishment
like building a muscle car or bodybuilding or something
just cuz a guy has built a bad ass 51 Merc' dont mean there is some law stating he must enter car shows
Again, no beef with you.

I have similar thoughts.

I apologize if I 'struck a nerve'.

You and I are good. Have a great evening!

No problem my friend, you're fine
I do believe everyone else though, should take it into consideration
That being a Competitor just because a guy or girl may be good at what they do
Is sometimes not available to us, or even desired,
---
Some of us train or practice specifically to be good at what we intend to use our gun for
be it hunting or self defense or target shooting
---
And that competing doesnt really qualify a persons own personal skillset beyond anything more than they got together with friends and shared their skills with one another, but doesnt make them much better than before they entered a competition
---
I would compete if I had expendable time, which may only happen if I retire, in the mean time, I will still keep practicing when and if time is available
haha imagine that, a guy that practiced for over 30 years first... before entering his first competition
