357 magnum new barrel

Just built a barrel for my pistol this morning. Don’t laugh, it’s a cannon now. 10 inches
Started as a 350 legend ar barrel from Bear Creek. I’m leaving the threads to try it suppressed. Maybe it’ll work. Shot some 8 inch groups at 100 yards this afternoon with 3N38 and 125 HAP bullets. Still working on a load. Installed a crane detent to support the cylinder. Here’s a picture.

Howdy !

Great work there, young man !!

I’ve had custom .357” cal barrels put on an M-64 stainless fixed sight, also as a 4” .357” cal liner on a bored-out M-58 fitted w/ an M-28 cylinder; and also a 4” custom barrel on fixed sight M-520 that was retired bymthe NYSP.
I prefer the “ N “ frame .357 Mags, esp the custom 4” heavy barrel w/ fixed sights as my carry gun.

Looks like you went with an action-width barrel OD, and thusly….did w/o the ejector rod shroud. That’s how my M-520 HB is also set-up.

Have you tried any WW296 / H110 yet?

With regards,

I have a pound of 296 and I had 10 rounds loaded that I shot today. I noticed that the 296 has less felt recoil but similar velocity. The load had 20 grains which was a medium load. I’m going to try it again tomorrow.

Howdy, again!

You are probably already using SP Magnum primers, I suspect.

For info:
The old Winchester/Olin reloading flyers they used to give out @ gunstores listed
14.5gr WW296 and SP Magnum primers, under a 158gr SWC as the minimum powder charge wt for use under those bullets. It has shot superbly ( my loads, my guns ) for me
in 4, 5, and 6” “N” frames for over 40yr. It also shot well in my Marlin M-1894SC.

I just wanted to mention the minimum charge at for WW296 in the .357Mag, when shooting158s. I’m also fond of 8gr SR 4756 under a cast 158 SWC, which was one load suggested by Skeeter Skelton, years ago. None the less….. you are operating @ the other end of the powder charge spectrum, for your 100yd work.

And… please take a look @ Cutting Edge Bullets. They offer at least 3 bullets recommended for .357Mag application… all solid copper ( 2 are hollow points ).
[ Their .358” cal 150 gr turned-brass Extended Range “ Raptor “ bullet has proven to be just stupid accurate in my Marlin M-336XLR .35 Remington ].

Best of luck in your endeavor !

With regards,
357Mag
