Question on threading a Rem barrel for suppressor

I have a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in 308, which has a pretty light profile barrel on it and as such, isn't balanced very well. The barrel measures 0.555" at the muzzle. I had the thought of getting the barrel threaded and putting a suppressor on it, to better balance the rifle. And save some of my hearing in the process when hunting.

Are there problems in threading the barrel at this diameter?

Will screwing a suppressor on the end of this light whippy barrel screw up the harmonics completely? The barrel is currently floated in the laminate stock.

This is how I thread pencil barrels for muzzle devices, but in your case you may not have enough muzzle diameter to do this. Gotta have adequate barrel wall thickness beyond minor thread diameter, and 9/16" is really minimum thread for .30 cal. I've done 1/2-28 on a few rare occasions on a .30 cal barrel when I didn't have any other option.

All you can do is try it. Affecting harmonics is a given, yes it will.
Question is what is affected and the extent. Often POI shifts, but doesn't affect "accuracy".

I have threaded a few thin barrels 7/16-28 and then used a bushing to get to suppressor thread size. I can send you contact info for the guy that makes bushings for me.
I have also done what I call a false shoulder on thin barrels. I would turn to .500 and thread .200 longer than normal then install a nut with bedding compound to keep the nut in place. This gives enough shoulder area to seat the suppressor against.

Threading it and running a suppressor won't hurt anything.poi change yes.you can shorten to suit and make it more pointable.20inch is good for 308.everything to gain.hearing,recoil,accuracy.sound reduction to deer or whatever quarry you are hunting.i do them on a regular basis for deer stalkers..never had a problem with any.
