I noticed that I had 5 stray .38 SPL Norma cases I my brought home from the range the other day. After cleaned, sizing and depriming, the case lengths were from 1.141 - 1.145.

Manuals:
Lee 51st - 1.155
Lyman - 1.155
Nosler #9 -1.155

SAAMI - 1.155 - 0.20 Does that mean i can subtract 0.20 from the 1.155 and have a minimum length of .9555 or are the case lengths already to short?

You misplaced a 0. Neg tolerance is 0.02 not 0.20. That makes the case by SAAMI run from 1.135 to 1.155.

They are just fine as they are.

That SAMMI dimension is maximum case length for 38 Special chamber. So your cases of 1.145" would be .010" under the 1.155" max. Perfect!

So I did, that's my dyslexia kicking in. I usually check and recheck measurements. that one got by me. thanks

Thanks. Are there limits to a case being to short for .38 SPL & .357 MAG.

Too short will affect or negate your crimp.

Generally I try to check and keep my 38/357's between max and .010 under. jd
