Who else is bothered?

Who else is bothered by the fact that American companies, CCI, Federal, Remington, and Winchester are incapable of producing true match grade .22 LR rimfire ammo?
The email response I got from CCI was…
“We manufacture Green Tag, and this is out top tier rimfire offering, and has proven to be very competitive.”

Most Americans with 22’s are plinkers shooting inexpensive ammo.
I'd say it's a market driven decision. If they made ammunition to compete with the match grade ammunition already on the market, it would likely be low demand due to the cost.
Why make the investment when the return on that investment will be excessively long?
You'd fire your investment advisor/401K fund manager for decisions like that. Same reasoning.

I don't blame them - it's just business. I don't care where it comes from if it is good and I can afford it. Sometimes when I see this question, I feel like some people are wanting something that shoots like Lapua, Eley, or SK, but at reduced prices. I had some good results with Federal Auto Match the other day while playing around with my T1X at 50yds.

I wonder if we got some CCI executives into shooting BR. Got EM hooked. . Then I bet we’d see some match ammo.
You got to think outside the box. Maybe invite them to a match with a top level Rifle all set up and shooting and let them shoot it. Get them hooked and then let them shoot some Green Tag. lol.

I guess someone forgot to tell the folks at Lapua and Eley that they won't make any money manufacturing target grade ammo. I get a kick out of some of our "experts" that say the American companies won't make a profit and that's why they don't make it. How do these "experts" know? Have they worked at the higher echelons of Remington, Federal and Winchester? They are just guessing and suggesting an unproven answer! I too, would love to know the REAL reason they quit making good ammo. All three of the American ammo companies that I mentioned DID make great ammo at one time and I am one who believes they still can. I hope nobody ever tells Eley and Lapua they aren't making any money on .22 RF ammo!

For the same reason Rem can put out a rifle without any rifling in the bore
or no primary extraction on the bolts.
(Pride in Quality has declined with our current generation of young employees)
If they only get 1 complaint out of 1000, they're still raking in the dough
(kinda like - If an Oil company has to pay a $10,000 fine every day for drilling in the sea, but is making
$1000000 per day, its worth it
Foreign Mfgr's can and HAVE capitolized on this fact.

I agree partially. But I am not necessarily looking for cheaper, but American made equivalent, or better would be great!

Well, hey. If you're convinced then start a business. You take the risk.

My point is, it's much easier to talk about than actually do. And if it's YOUR money on the line, the perspective changes.
If it doesn't and you've got the 'coin' then there's your start-up idea.

Good luck.

Federal tried to make world class .22LR ammo to compete with Eley Tenex. It didn't work. Just like Ruger built rifles for the National Team to shoot at the Palma Match. It didn't work. Federal wanted U.S. shooters to compete on the world stage with American ammo. It didn't work. I had a few hundred rounds of the Federal ammo with the dimpled case head. I didn't have a good enough rifle at the time, still don't really, to see how good it really was. But the world-class shooters in the U.S. back then pretty much wholly rejected it and kept going back to Tenex. That was 30 or more years ago..........

Well, and that's the other caveat.

Whomever tries this will have to convince someone to promote this match grade ammunition AND they will have to prove it's up to the task. Then it'll have to be repeated by multiple people.

And still hope it sells well.

It's not a sound business venture.

Nothing much is made in America anymore
We have become totally dependent on foreign countries
At this point, I’m not sure American ever can be number one in industry anymore
One good thing, or the bright side is
indepedent specialized American Businesses, can also capitolize on doing specialized custom work
(Such as building custom rifles, barrels etc)

I'm with ya. It's close to embarrassing. Of the four companies you listed, I'm not sure that one could find one that has ammo capable of making a dependable squirrel hunting round. It didn't use to be that way. JME. WD

Let them shoot their CCI Green Tag and see how they stack up against the "other" match ammo shooters, then maybe they'll see the light? :p

I'm also seeing shooters at matches asking for "cheap" ammo matches, due to the ever increasing cost of quality match ammo. I'm not opposed to this route, but I still like shooting the best that my rifles perform the best with, and don't really enjoy shooting for, basically luck, in a match. Although I have been the recipient of luck in several matches thru the years. :D

I had two bricks of Green Tag. You know I wanted to see for myself. Which Green Tag is just sorted SV. Well in every Rifle I shot it in it shot very well but had way too many flyers. So occasionally I hit a good group or had 3 or 4 in a hole. I do mean in one hole. But then you hit all flyers. So IDK what causes the flyers but I’d bet money they know. Bad bullets, bad brass. Something. I’m sure they could fix it but just so you know it was very hard to find at the time I bought it and it was expensive. So when enough people are playing with it and they are selling it for big profit. Why change. I think if we could get some of the top brass to a few matches and got them interested and involved. So yes they could make money but not as big a profit margin as they do now. They would have to want to compete to do it.
