Mauser 98 Stock and bottom metal options

Hello everyone. SO I have an old rifle that was one of my first purchases as a kid. A sporter Argentio 1909 which as I understand, is a Mauser 98. This rifle has an old Fajen stock and an unknown barrel. The rifle is chambers in 280 Remington. Not 280 AI. I am planning on taking this rifle on an elk hunt in November as I have a decent amount of time on it and I know the 20 will be sufficient on a cow elk inside 400 yards.

My questions is, what are my stock option asides from a Boyds or Hogue. Not opposed to a Boyds, I love the look of them and like the classic wood look, but for a hunting rifle, I figured fiberglass may be better. Also, the floor plate is not ideal for rapid unloading. I would almost prefer to just have a trigger guard and all internal magazine.

Open to options and suggestions.

Richards Microfit is a good option, There is nothing wrong with boyds, It's just a generic stock in my opinion. The Richards Microfit stocks are going to require more work before you are ready to put on a finish. They have gotten quite a bit better in the last several years and don't require as much work as they used to, But you will need to do minor inletting and quite a bit of sanding.

They have a large number of different styles of stocks.

But I would wait to replace the stock until after your hunt if the rifle works good now, It will take a couple months to get one from Richards anyway.

While not a traditional option this is lightweight, allows a magazine, and the option of supported or non supported barrel and full adjustability. Metal pillars for action and fits a Timney trigger if you desire. I have one on mine and have had no issues with it..

Bell & Carlson still makes a synthetic for the '98. If you have all of the 1909, it has a hinged floor plate. The release isn't 'handy', but it was a military rifle, and not accidentally dumping the magazine was high priority. An aftermarket release is available from Wisner Gun Parts. It requires fitting and comes "in the white", but can be cold blued.
