Another tuner target

Let me add my tuner target for your review. The way I set the tuner up is after installation is to find the middle of the tuner which is 18. From there, 6 marks left and 8 marks right are what I’m interested in.

Setting 18 has been good!

I Setup the target at a 100 yards and fired 5 sighters using the 18 setting, then move to the 12 setting and begin the sequence of 12 to 26 firing two rounds at each point. There was a slight breeze right to left.

17,19,21, and 26 are considered one hole. The 20 mark, I made a sighting error and put one round back into the 19. Meh!

What is the magic number?

I would think 25 is your tune and you want to know how many clicks will adjust the times when you have to deal with vertical or horizontal dispersion. Then again, I am certainly no tuner expert.
I think you're on the right path. I think it's probably 26 and that's based on it appearing to be both in tune and at the top of the bbl swing. Not just those things but also, it should also be 8-10 marks(my tuner) between top an bottom sweet spots. We don't have groups beyond 26 to look at, so I'm only able to surmise that it was in tune at bottom at 17 and should be back in, at top, at 25-27ish. Well, it appears to be at top, it's in tune, or at least shot small...and is at a predictable spacing from 17(in tune at bottom).

The op hasn't informed me what tuner he's using but it looks like it might be mine.

That said, I read groups with emphasis on shapes and who can guess what a 3rd shot would do to his group shapes? Pages ripped out of his owners manual? Possibly. I'll never understand trading good results for 15 more rounds...but that's me. Instead, the op is on here asking for us all to tell him how to interpret his owners manual for him. o_O
I have other questions but I can't stay on here waiting and answering stuff right now. He should however, call and get instruction from the tuner mfg.

For starter when using 2 shot group, when you shoot a good one reshoot it on your next bull to see if it repeats. If it does then try a 4 shoot group If its the same I quit rigjt there. And try it at a match. All I want is a competitive gun going into battle. My goal is not shooting groups to admire. Post 16, Mike makes a good point about gettin the group at 12:00. But, it does not need to be only at 12. I have had barrels tune at various positions on the clock. Most important is repeatability. But, I don.t use the tuner to make the load. I use the tuner to preserve the original tune as the barrel changes from rounds fired.

I have used this tuner about a year and never did any testing and shot this target for the experience.

I’ve listened to Speedy and Erik, John Meyer and Erik, and Tom Seller talk about tuners. They put out a lot of good information but until I see it from my gun….

From my notes, Speedy says it takes about two years to figure out how these tuners work, it’ll take much more time for me than that.

Thanks for all the input, appreciate it very much. Lots to learn!

If it takes two years, you're doing something very wrong or getting poor instruction from the maker. Nobody and I mean nobody, should know more about a tuner design than the one that "engineered" it. Tuner instruction is not generic at all. There are pretty drastic differences in designs and makes. Hands on, I can have you on the right path in a couple of hours with good conditions and a good rifle using my tuner. Less really, but the whole kit and kaboodle might take that long or a tad more. It's pretty easy, really. Still a learning curve but good instruction for YOUR tuner is the absolute key to success using it. You ran your version of my tuner test with a different make of tuner. I'm not a bit surprised that your results are difficult to decipher. I'm gonna say this much but if you didn't get good instruction with or during your purchase, you made a mistake but the maker can still make that right with you.

That's precisely why I ONLY do tuner orders by phone. You'll get that instruction if you will listen to it. A web shopping cart is just not how I do tuners. Make of that, what you will but it's said with best intentions in mind.

Is this for competition or hunting?

This thread is why I don't have a tuner on any of my LR bench rest barrels.
Easily frustrated and lose interest in things that require a lot of testing or fuss.
I have always found I can tune with my seating depth/powder charge faster and with less barrel wear and fewer component expended.
All that said, I bought a 22LR rifle from out of state (Anschutz) and decided I needed to get a tuner BEFORE the rifle was even in my possession. Turned out it shot so well I have yet to put that tuner on it.
Why take that chance?
From all my shooting friends that shoot tuners, especially from some who have tried different brands, is that Mike's PDC is the best and easiest to tune.
