.22lr Rifle Match Ammo

Where are you guys generally buying your .22lr rifle match ammo from?

My local Scheels carries Eley and occassionally will get in some SK. My other two local gun stores don't carry it at all.
My advice is NOT to buy anything based on brand name or price. I have rifles that shoot the $6 a box stuff just as good or better than the $20/25 a box stuff. If possible, look for an online or local retailer that will sell small amounts (50 in a box) and try them all. You'll be surprised!! Price/Brand name doesn't guarantee smaller groups!!

That's a good point. The only stuff in my area for local purchase is Eley. They carry several different versions of it which can be a little over whelming for someone new to precison .22lr. I think I'll do what you suggest and just buy a box or two of the various offerings and see how it goes.

I agree with what you are saying...but in my opinion a lot of it has to do with price. I have Lapua X-Act for sale in the classifieds right now and there doesn't seem to be any interest. I don't like the cost any better than the next guy, but if a person wants to try to be competitive, one is just going to have to pay the fiddler!

I bought (3) different lot numbers from Whidden...then picked out the best lot for my 2500x after testing. The stuff has gone up since I bought it a couple of months ago. Unfortunately if you want to play this competition rimfire game...you gotta pay! No way around it...I see (except to quit). I bought a case of the stuff that tested the best ($3600 bucks...OUCH)...it's now $4,000+!!

The stuff I'm keeping does shoot.
What’s it average for 5 or 10 groups with that ammo?

I think powder valley just had a warehouse fire. May be down for awhile.
yes they lost the warehouse.. they sent me some pics and this is what is left. Getting some items that were not stocked in the store may be a while

I have tested 2 different ARA UL guns on 3 different occasions at Mesa recently, and there was never a lot of X-Act that shot any better than the Midas+ I tried. (also tested Center-X). YMMV, but the added cost of X-act isn't worth the risk, for me. I've also bought several bricks of X-act blind, with a similar result.

I'm sure in some cases X-Act will be the best, but too pricey/risky for my taste. I am quite competitive with my test lot of Midas+.

After testing three different lots of X-Act...one of those lots shot slightly better than the Midas+ I have at 50 yds. Interestingly the Midas+ shot better at a 100 yds. Go figure!! I won a 100 yd Mini-Palmer match two Saturdays ago with the Midas+. Therefore, I'm keeping both...lol!

I get most of mine from Brownells. I stop there a lot. Most of the time they show out of stock on a lot of stuff but it is out on the retail floor. Thats why I stop and check.
