6 bra problems.

Some time ago I built a BRA to tinker with. It’s on a 700 action with a benchmark barrel. I worked the load with several different powders and bullets until it was happy. Actually it is the most accurate rifle I own. A couple of my friends joined me for some midrange matches and that’s what I’d give them to shoot. I was using N150, Peterson brass, 450 primers and 105 bergers. One day during a match at Port Malabar it blanked a primer with one of my friends. No ejector marks no hard bolt lift… nothing out of the ordinary. Since then even with a very reduced load, 140fps reduced, it is still blanking primers. I’ve tried different primers, brass, bullets and powders at a wide range of weights. Could it be it needs to put a bushing in the firing pin? Never ran into that myself and I read what I could on the web. Or is there something else I’m overlooking that someone knows about? If bushing is the problem do you have recommendations on who and where?

This would be a good time to get it bushed.

Since it's a 700 I'm betting the firing pin hole needs bushed and the pin itself needs fitted to it and the tip cleaned up.

CCI450s are a pretty stout primer. Id get your firing pin bushed and have the fp tip dressed and the protrusion checked/adjusted while they are at it.

If you inspect the tip of the firing pin you will most likely find that it is burnt like you took a torch to it.

Most likely you just need a new firing pin.

Could be a few different things but I'm with Mark here. The pin & bolt face work needs done regardless, the OP can check for a carbon ring or other possibilities while the bolts out getting done.

Firing pin spring needs replacement is my vote, happens to me about once every two years with an old BAT B.

Replaced the spring twice with new ones. Clean and confirm with a bore scope after every time I shoot, no carbon ring. Firing pin is the only thing left. I’ve just boxed it up to ship off. Soon we’ll see.
