Bolt actuon 22LR recommendation

I have a friend looking for a bolt action 22LR. He would like something easy on the wallet but decent accuracy with more bulk ammo than spending more money on better quality 22 ammo. What are you guys using for a rifle? This guy will never compete and will be a just for fun rifle that i bet he only shoots a few times.

I 2nd this.

If he doesn't mind tinkering with it, tell him to get a Savage MK II. It will probably need some work to smooth it out. It's a few hundred dollars less than a new Tikka or CZ, but would likely shoot the same groups with bulk ammo.

Otherwise, get the Tikka or CZ.

I'm not saying this because your friend did not choose one of our suggestions. I hope he is happy with his choice. I've never shot the Springfield but I've read and watched YouTube videos on them and for my money I would have purchased a 22lr with a better accuracy history.

Oh i agree. I do own one but am not partial to it. I got it for free when they had a rebate on them. While mine shoots alright for what it is. I told him if it was my money id lean tikka or cz. He did not want to spend that much. Buy once, cry once. I learnt that the hard way before.

The Ruger 10/22 is arguably the most popular semi-automatic .22 LR rifle sold in the USA. While not a bolt-action rifle, its popularity stems from its reliability, versatility, and extensive aftermarket support. For bolt-action .22 LR rifles, the Ruger American Rimfire and CZ 457 series are frequently cited as top contenders in terms of accuracy, features, and value.

CZ 457 MTR. It is a few hundred over the other good choices here, but that match barrel fully justifies it. Nothing comes close for the money unless you go into the big buck stuff. It was unobtanium for a few years, but I see it is available as low as $750 now, so grab one soon.

That Waypoint checked all the boxes for me until I read all the reviews.

I bought a Begara BMR instead, & have never regretted the decision.

Ditto on my Bergara.

Maybe his example will be a decent shooter. Sounds like that is all he's looking for. I've read a lot about the lack of accuracy in the 2020, but I don't recall reading about function problems. So he should be able to shoot his 2020 to his heart's content.

Oh yeah mine functions flawlessly for the 3 times ive taken it out. I can not complain on my part for free. I talked to him today and he had not actually ordered it like he told me last night, so hoping he comes around and chooses something better to start with.
