22LR recommendation?

Might check the Green Savage Walmart Special, $450 Mk II with a Boyds adjustable stock and a Weaver 3-9 "cheap" scope.

Looking at the purchase of a 22LR to use for a fun league at out range. I have a Savage MKII F but it really doesn't fit me very well. Feels short, more like a youth size rifle. So looking local I found a shop that has a new Savage B22FV and a used Ruger American with a 22" barrel. The Savage is just under $300.00 and the Ruger is listed at $230.00. Neither has a mounted scope. Haven't seen the Ruger yet so I dont know it's actual condition. Depending on condition which would you consider?

I have a Tikka T1X, Bergara BMR, Savage B22. My next. 22lr purchase soon will be a CZ.
I have other .22lr's.
KMW, I shot my Savage B22 4 days last week. Everyday it shot to your requirements or better.
However I'm sure it will not clean a IBS 50 yard rimfire target. I also don't believe that's your intention of which the 2 rifles you asked about. You stated (fun league). Whatever purchase you make, take your 11 year old grandson out and have fun.
Tomorrow I will possibly lay some 100 yard groups down with mine, if I do I'll let you know how it goes.

I like Savages and Rugers and own both brands. Just that they are not competitive in rimfire benchrest

I have a feeling this is going to be more like a local bowling pin shoot. Two groups, youth and adult. Youth cut off I believe is 14. For me the best part will be spending time with the grandson and teaching him more than fundamentals. I could shoot the MKII but it is just not comfortable.

I buy 500 series Remingtons, 510, 511, 512 or 513s. If they have a decent barrel. Those Remingtons, barrels to actions fit, are held together by two tight fitting pins they as a group are very accurate 22 rifles. It costs a lot of coin to duplicate their accuracy today. A centerfire scope of quality mounted and you are in business. Triggers are two stage. These are a few 511s.

My savage mark ii fv sr will hammer 1/2” at 50 yards. 100. Not so much. Cci standard velocity only one lot I have found will shoot like that though.

Are you sure about the 2-stage triggers? I have owned numerous 510, 511, and 513's and have never encountered one with a 2-stage trigger. Some of them have had a lot of movement (creep) before they fired but they certainly weren't a designed 2-stage.
The triggers on the 500 series has always been the weak link because outside of stoning the sear to try to make them better there isn't much that can be done to them.

I took my Savage B22 to the range today to shoot a few groups. Switchy head and tail winds 2-6 mph.
50 yards CCI Standard Velocity, 4 5 shot groups. Small .875" Large 1.30"
50 yards SK Standard Plus 5 5 shot groups. .690", .880", .965", 1.20", 1.25"
I shot 1 10 shot group with both ammo's at 100 yards.
SK Standard Plus 2.012" H 1.406" W.
CCI Standard Velocity 2.088" H 1.535" W.
I know this doesn't mean a whole lot but it is a little information.
I do not own wind flags. I was using flagging ribbons for wind indicators.
This was the 5th time this rifles been to the range and it has shot 50 yards a little better, but not today.

yeah I can see this thread has gone sudeways. Lots of comments with nothing to do with the question asked.
I have a Ruger American in .17hmr and a Savage MKii in .22. The American Synthetic stock is Adjustable for length of pull with 2 different options and feels more full size than a MKii. Ruger trigger is pretty much a copy of savage accutriger. The Ruger American also uses the flawless 10 round flush fitting 10/22 magazine. Opposed to the cheap protruding MKii mags.......... Sorry I don't have any experience with a B22........ But out of the box The Ruger American vs a MKii in both in synthetic stocks. Ruger win's in my opinion, it is just way more refined. Maybe they closed the gap with the B22?

Tip - Lots of people on lots of forums reply to the thread title more than the op.

I own 3mk I/IIs and a b22. The B22 is probably slightly less accurate but its hard to be sure because they're set up for different uses and my B22 is a tapered barrel and 2 of the Mks are heavy. The B22 definitely has a more robust plastic stock than the fvt. I still have a 1" 'recoil pad' on just for the lop increase. The only good thing about the fvt stock is it has so little material in it it helps make weight for Sporter competition;)

The accutrigger is the same as the MkII so it depends on if you like that...
There is a little tricky action to load the b22(and a22) rotary mag but it's not bad at all after you remember it each time. I like the way it clips in and out better than most other mags.

I think it would be a satisfactory gun for what you're talking about but I can't compare it to the other.

I've haven't been impressed with the Ruger's in the accuracy department. If you're happy with the Savage you own, you might put it in a different stock as someone else suggested. I have a Mark II FV-SR I picked just because it was super cheap used and I was surprised with the accuracy. If you just want a different rifle, I'd get the Savage you listed. If possible, I'd try to up the price range and go with something else entirely though.

The b22 mag is flush fit, 10 rd rotary very similar to but not interoperable with the '10/22' mags.
It is interoperable with Savage's own A22 fwiw
I prefer the B22 mag but my 10/22 is 50 years old, I expect most Ruger owners will prefer the ruger mags

I normally shoot a 223 bench rifle and am looking to build a 6mm bench rifle. This is just for giggles. Most likely the only time this will be used is with the grandchildren.
