CCI Stinger 22lr - 300 yards?

Assuming 32gr Stinger shoots well in my T1X, is it ambitious to try to hit steel targets from a benchrest at 300 yards with a 3-9x40 BDC SFP tactical scope in light/no wind using holdover hashmarks that go to 30 MOA? According to a ballistic calculator, it's approximately 28 MOA at 300 yards from a 50 yard zero without plugging in atmospherics yet.

Ambitious? Depends on the size of your steel targets! :)

Stingers were the least accurate rounds I’ve ever shot in my rifle. If I remember correctly the stingers were a solid 2 MOA round. CCI Standard Velocity would be a much better choice for accuracy and price. They grouped about 1 MOA for me.

Compare some 50 yard groups with them and see how they do for you.

From my experience 40g standard velocity ammo will do better. There’s lower priced match ammo like Eley Target or SK rifle match, standard plus or pistol match better suited than Stingers.
CCI standard velocity 40gr has a bullet drop of about 50 MOA at 300 yards. I won't be able to use holdovers with that much drop and loss of velocity without turning the elevation turret which I want to avoid (at least for this experiment). Is there a high velocity 22LR ammo up around 1600 FPS that anyone can recommend?

Those were shots 3-7 from my tikka. Shot with Velocitor. SV ended up shooting better and I never shot the Velocitor at paper again, but that’s pretty good for a 6 power scope. I think they were 1485 fps from my 20”. I hunt with the Velocitor and shoot paper with the SV.

Stingers have always been about the worst when it came to 50 yard groups. I wouldn't even waste my time with them at 300. Your best bet is going to be standard velocity ammo. CCI SV is the most economical and it shoots great for the price. Usually on par with the cheaper SK stuff, at half the price. I can make consistent hits out to 500 yards on a 20" plate with either from my bartlein barreled CZ457

No sir,
I have not tried it yet myself but have a customer who used his Ruger Precision RF to print
a 3 inch 10 shot group at 300 yds.
he was practicing for 1000 yds Long Rifle
Just need the right ammo and a quality barrel
(And no wind)

Stingers are a lot of fun, they don’t shoot in all of my rimfires but for long distance I think you’d be happier with a heavier bullet. There’s a lot of options out there especially if you look at RWS, SK and such. If you’re trying to find something at reasonable price the Norma Tac 22 does a good job at distance. Rimfires are picky, it would pay to try half a dozen brands with 40 grains or heavier and see what your rifle likes.

If you can see a target at 300 yds with a 3-9 you’ve already outdone me
Exactly what I was thinking. I am regulated to no more than 6.5X in IR Sporter and you cannot see the center dot or fine scoring rings at 50yds. Even at 9X, but 6 times the distance , I don't see the relevance of his question as to precision at that range with any load with 9X and a reticle not nearly as precise as a target reticle. IMO, at 300yds trying to generate true data on load performance, he is way under scoped.

And that group was shot at what yardage? Going to bet it wasn't 300yds.

I’m going to bet that since everything in this post is based around a 50 yard zero, that it was 50 yards…. You know, sort of the standard for 22 LR group shooting.

He asked about something that shot well that was also fast.

Is there a problem?

I tried 9 brands in my tikka the day I got it. All of it was hunting ammo except the cci SV. I was amazed at the variation in group size. From 4” (Remington 45 gr SUB) down to 0.2” (SV). The Velocitor that I posted above shot pretty good so I’ve been hunting with that.

Oh ya…. 300 yards of course, if you’re obtuse enough to infer that from my post. Although, seemed pretty clear that it was a 50 yard group.

My experience has been much the same, big differences between brands, each rifle has its own favorite. I’ve had pretty good luck with Velocitor, too. Great small game round too!

No, he asked about shooting Stingers at 300yds (thus the question of yardage on your pic), and yes Velocitors are fast, but not what he asked about.

The OP is pretty much brand new here (6 weeks) and from his post, he may not have a lot of experience, possibly confusing your pic as a 300yd group because that was the subject of his thread starter. I knew it was most likely a 50yd group, but you posted no yardage. I am very familiar with typical group sizes of .22lr at different distances, and no, there is no problem, just clarification for the OP.

Remington Viper and Yellow Jackets shoot surprisingly well in my Kimber. It’s all older ammo (15+ years) and I don’t know what the new stuff would do. 80% of the CCI SV shoot great, the other 20% though, not so much. :)

I don’t have the desire or the wallet to buy the top end Lapua or Eley. SK Standard shoots good enough for competitions against myself and it’s at a price I’ll pay.

My dad loves those yellowjackets.
