And it was said that they are able to kill a measly one percent of the population annually. It cannot be called wild "hog control"~!!A lot of shooting and killing there is about all one can say. But those hogs are a huge problem down there.

I agree with you 1000%. The 6PPC has often been described as "the most accurate cartridge ever developed out to 300 yards". Built on a lite sporter configuration I wouldn't hesitate to carry it on any hunt in the US plus, I can't see well beyond 300 yards anyway~!A well placed shot will kill anything right where stands, the 6 ppc will be just fine
Yes, and particularly for Dingo/Dog cross as well as feral and sometimes just loose dogs that are not kept under control, especially at night..Is that Dingos?
Yes we even see that here where dogs pack up at night.Yes, and particularly for Dingo/Dog cross as well as feral and sometimes just loose dogs that are not kept under control, especially at night..
“OH, My dog wouldn’t do that to your sheep…”
I’ll bring it home for you some morning and you can tell me that again….![]()
I agree with your comment about the .22LR, but a small group of guys I went out with for the first time thought otherwise and ragged on me all day about my carrying a 9422 in .22-Mag. They all had bigger caliber CF rifles. One had a .30-06.Kinda funny-
We always shot them - between eyes w/ 22LR- killed them dead-
What makes you think a 6ppc won’t??….
I think it would work completely fine. But if I was planning on shooting pigs with a bullet in that weight class I would just go with a basic 223 and leave the brass behind. What would you think of a rifle weighing 6.5 pounds chambered in 6MM-PPC shooting a 68 grain bullet for hog hunting~? Great weight for carrying all day, super accurate caliber, very accurate rifle with the abllity to hit the hog in the eye~!
Hmmmmmm~!!, That's a thought~!!!A poorly shot hog with a light bullet might be healthy enough to take out some of his anger management issues on the shooter. Properly placed...fine. We shoot them off our pastures regularly.
Your milage may vary. I have seen dogs injured by well shot hogs that died a few minutes later.
Good Hunting,
K
I agree. But that's why I go with LC brass and leave it behind. All of my pig loads are once fired LC brass and I don't stress over picking it up. About 8 years ago I found 1000 pieces for $45. It was dirty range pick up but works perfect for pigsI just happen to have a stainless Ruger 77 in .223 with a paddle stock and plenty on new Lapua brass. I honestly never gave the using of a .223 a thought. But, going along with your comment I would still have to "dig thru the weeds" to retrieve my Lapua brass. especially since it's Lapua~!!
I got the Lapua brass for a really good price anf it's suppose to be loadable many times. However I know the LC brass is excellent and I should probably pick some up if I see some at a great price.I agree. But that's why I go with LC brass and leave it behind. For Elk, Moose and black bear?I agree with you 1000%. The 6PPC has often been described as "the most accurate cartridge ever developed out to 300 yards". Built on a lite sporter configuration I wouldn't hesitate to carry it on any hunt in the US plus, I can't see well beyond 300 yards anyway~!
The rifle is an early Ruger 77 which has a 1:12 twist and and cannot shoot 55gr and over bullets. I'm going to try the 53ge and 52gr. Depending on how well they do I might try weights down to 40gr.I have enough fully prepped OFB (single headstamp) 5.56/.223 brass to share if you wish to go that route. What twist is your bbl? I can include some appropriate weight bullets as well, up to 80 grs.
Actually I was thinking Brontosourus Rex~!For Elk, Moose and black bear?
I don't think for a nano-second that the 6ppc won't work. AND I do think that .22LR will work as long as the rifle can shoot well. It's all about shot placement~!Kinda funny-

You should be able to stabilize 55 gr bullets in 1/12” twist, the original M16/M16A1 has 1/14”twist and M193 55 gr FMJBT was standard. The rifle is an early Ruger 77 which has a 1:12 twist and and cannot shoot 55gr and over bullets.
