6 mm barrel twist

given a barrel for 105 and115 6 mm bullets how will the 80 and 68 grain bullets work ?will use gun for informal group shoots and hog hunting.

they will shoot no problems.
i use 108 bergers in a 6br for 600yd br comps then load 75 vmax for vermin the gun doesnt know what its shooting.
just to add its a 8 twist Bartlein.

Have one with 7 1/2" shoots 115 great and down to 87 gr.
One with 8 twist shoots 115 ok but 105s better and down to 87s good!

Hunted with Barefoot last year and can assure you that game is available and you will have a great time with excellent accommodations and the blinds are superb. A very personal and family operated and oriented staff. Any questions just PM me. This is a deal, and you can fly direct to Johannesburg from Atlanta for less than $2000.00 . You will never see the game in the US like you will in SA. The PH..Outfitter is a true bow hunter at heart. Food is great too, beer is cold :)

Question: Have you tried lighter bullets?

I ask because I know that slow twists will not stabilize long bullets, but will fast twists over stabilize short bullets to the point where they disintegrate (due to centrifugal force) or over-stabilze to the point (somehow) of gross inaccuracy7

I've played around with a lot of loads in one of my 6BR barrels for ground squirrel hunting (Krieger 8-twist) and have accurately shot "max" loads of 58 V-Maxes and 62 Varmint Grenades with no problems.

There won't be a problem unless they have very thin jackets. My 1 in 8 6mm ackley turned 75 grain Sierras into pieces at 50 yards. It really likes the 70 gr Sierra match bullet much better. And the 60 grain Bergers. I have a 1 in 12 Kreiger waiting in the wings , the 75's should like that twist better.

I shoot a 6xc for XTC matches. I use 80 Berger varmint bullets in the 200yd offhand and rapid fire strings. 1:8 twist, 26" they shoot exceptionally well

I have an old model 6mm rem factory var. with a 9 twist that shots 75 gr.Sierras very well. Will not shoot anything over 85 gr.Have not shot anything under 75.Go figure.

The Berger Twist Rate Calculator is an interesting tool. The scale is unstable on the left and comfortably stable on the right. There is no "red zone" that informs you of over-stabilization. Plug in the 65 grain Match with a 7.5 twist and, given temp 59 degrees and 500 altitude, the stability factor is somewhere around 3.18 which if comfortably stable. That wouldn't change much with a 1 in 8. On the other hand a 95 gr VLD is marginally stable in a 1 in 9 twist with the same temp and altitude. Increase the ambient temp and or altitude and the stability number increases, so @oldwildhog may need to move to Mt. Everest to get stability from his 1 in 9 :) .
Another thing is, especially for long range shooting, a heavier bullet may be stable in a slower twist (no keyhole) but your BC suffers at marginal stability.

I have two 6mm BR rifles. One is an 8 twist and the other is a 12 twist that I use for 65 gr VMAX bullets. I have shot the 65 VMAX bullets from the 8 twist just to use up some of the ammo I had and found no loss in accuracy.
