Groundhog tally so far since June.

I save the empty shell casings and sell them here. a member just bought 262 empty 17 Hornet cases, representing my groundhog tally in 2024. I don't know how we'll do in 2025, but we have a ways to go so far, each of these cases dropped a groundhog. Since the first week of June, I only post pictures when it's six or more in a day. Sixty one or two.

Sinc e my groundhogs are extremely limited in my part of WV I add my rockchucks in ID with them (identical animals). This year 117 WV groundhogs, 270 ID rockchucks. So 2025 is 387 of the cousins and that is handguns only!!
That's a nice haul, but you see, I have something that gets in my way often, and it's work. No big deal it provides a decent lifestyle though,I try to get out twice a week till Thanksgiving here. So far so good, rockchucks for me next year, hopefully.Good hunting to you.

I remember the work thing. Did that for 47 years. When you get "retarded" life gets better.....usually.
Gotta have something to keep away the stresses of work. Hunting worked for me. Looks like you got it figured out, too.

Amen, I've hunted since the age of 7 with supervision. Without an outlet for my passion, doing what I do is a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, I've plenty of spots, including a backyard that's 1000 acres, with no access to the public. I've to be thankful for that; that's where the hard work pays off. Where I live now, only doctors and high-end professionals live, and I'm wondering what I'm doing here. Everybody has at least 10 to 200 acres hidden well off the road.

Uh! Oh! you're high end now. I do a lot of housing type deer & groundhog removal with subsonic use & the game wardens blessing. One year killed 30 ghogs around the local football field. I "scored" pretty goodView attachment 1678386
Same hear all my stuff is suppressed,17 Hornet,204,22 etc. I charge 200 for a coyote removal and had to stop because it became overwhelming.Just not enough time,I sometimes deviate if there's groundhog shooting as a tradeoff.

All my "removals" are freebies. Gets me more "business". Coyotes got smart in my part of WV. Too many people trying to call them & just spook them. I get a few a year when crop damage deer hunting using my original .300 Whisper made by my good friend JD Jones of SSK Industries.+

It doesn't take but an hour or so to know when amateur callers have been in an area. You might as well pack up and leave. I've called in Ohio, Pa, West Virginia, Iowa, South Dakota, South Carolina, and North Carolina, as well as Montana and Arizona In 25 years, I've racked up hundreds that were accounted for with pictures. An area with no amateur hour hunters, an experienced caller, can rack up numbers like this.

I'm jealous!! Killed a very big one a few years ago. Got him full body mounted. Guess my handgun groundhog totals (16,350+) puts me in a league with you. Keep it up.20230409_145712.jpg

How can you tell, and why would you leave?

Hipshot, NOPE for the deo!! The football coaches wanted me to rid the field of groundhogs. Killed this one on the goal line after he came from the visitor's concession stand. I got permission from the Board of Ed. super, mayor, 7 chief of police to do this. Used my suppressed Ruger MKIII and took 16 that summer from the ground & the bleachers on shots out to 70 yards.. One of the craziest things I've done in my hunting career.

Since I've been calling predators since my teens, you learn how to read an area. Once again, when weekend warriors go to work with their lack of calling skills, it's time to get out of Dodge, just wasting time. Called this in in Montana when I was calling for wolves. You leave an amateur called area and move on.

Yes, you did say before that you need to leave when those conditions are in play. I understood that.
