Failed Cartridges

I have made 30.06 into .308. I've seen a .308 turned into 30.06 by shooting it in a 30.06 M1, wasn't usable after that. That's the only case stretcher I know of.

The federal broke butt mountain man bun yuppie boy cartridges will be soon to follow .

Even if Hornady machine had pumped out the these they are doomed to fail.

Bye bye 7mm back country.

I have carried the LCP, the LCP Gen 2 and now the LCP MAX for 15 years as security for my church. It fits nicely in my dress pants pocket or in jeans. During or last qualification I scored 93 out of 100 against full size and mid sized guns from 9mm to 45 acp. That little dude is very accurate once you know how to hold it. I have a diy thumb "shelf" on the trigger guard, and I use an 80% grip with my off hand, thumb along the slide pointing towards target. This reduces the tendency to torque the pistol while pulling the trigger. I believe it is referred to as the vice grip method. Whatever it's called it works very well fir me.

Just curious, how did you manage to make 30-‘06 cases from 308?
The 308 blanks have a nose on them where the bullet would be so that they will feed into the M60 machine gun. So there is a lot more brass to work with than just the 308 case. I removed the crimp with a small tubing cutter and a drill. Then expanded the nose portion in steps to using dies I had on hand ending with 338 WM. Then full length sized to 30-06. Then using 10 grains of Red Dot and a 100 grain lead bullet I fire formed them and reloaded as normal. If the neck split, which happened to about 1 in 10, I would trim and resize to 8x57. If that one split I would trim and resize to 308, 7mm08 or 260 as needed. After my post last night I went through my records and found that between the 308 blanks and the 5.56 blanks I salvaged 1500+ usable rounds. I ended up with about 20 pounds of waste and some of them could still be used for 45acp and 9mm but the lower you go on the case the thicker it gets and te more thinning is required. I didn't need either of those.

At some point I will need to anneal because I moved a lot of brass, especially getting down to 260 Remington. All of my 260 and 7mm08 are from this process because at the time I couldn't find either of these on store shelves and if I did the price was Outrageous!

What am I supposed to do? Click on an unknown link to see what you have to say?
No thanks

You missed the “blank”. Using the right style blank gives you a donor case longer than the parent cartridge. Comes in handy some times for wildcats or obsolete cartridges.

I even went so far as to fire firm 458 SOCOM out of the brass that got to short for the 308 family. They looked like a bloated dolphin and they were only good for one firing but with the price of 458 SOCOM then and now, it was worth it.

You're right, my eyes were closing last night when I typed that and was going to wait till morning to the reread the thread before posting. Half asleep I thought he was misusing the term and referring to empty cases, it didn't dawn on me blanks meant blanks :D
