300 Norma Improved 35 degree

Don't be like me! I shot my 300PRC at KRG with 1100 rounds on the barrel. It was still shooting really well. I knew it was close, but decided to run it. After the 2nd stage on day 2, not so much. Might have done better with a shotgun. Borescope confirmed little chunks missing on the lands. Although the throat didn't move much, the barrel is done! I just screwed a new one on yesterday and started the process over. 25 rounds on it today. Hopefully I'll get it settled and tuned for Nightforce.
I was there hard on barrels lol I decided to throw my other barrel on went and zeroed it and shot some elr hitting perfect so worked out great. Same load as my other barrel which is super nice.

Reminds of my friends 300 Dakota a number of years back at the range..only his barrel had 500 rnds thru it at the time.always ran it hot and no cool down time . He asked to take a look at it with my bore scope and laughed my head off. the 1st inch of the lands were gone and after that about 3 more inches, nothing but heat cracks .throat was gone, looked thru the muzzle end it looked awful as well. needless to say i was able to pull off a sub half inch 5 shot group with it.at 100 yds.

I am not aware of any other commercially available options. If it helps, they were on back order when I ordered mine and it shipped in a few days. They never took it off back order either. You might give them a call.

Thanks, I've sent them a mail!

This has been a great 36 pages of information on the (basic) NMI and variations. It appears the Wheeler design is a solid one. I am going to do the 300 NMI with a 32" 1:9" twist barrel.

ISS.

Bullet Central Micron dies just made the decision for me. $700+ for a full set.
Standard 300 here I come unless there is a bit more consumer friendly answer.
Redding, perhaps?
Just buy there sizer die then buy a forster 300 norma seater die have the sleeve reamed or I believe you can use the straight 300 norma seater from rcbs someone talked about that die a few pages back

Life is good on the die set issue. I found, thru FeMan here who turns out to be a 'smith at a LGS 6 miles away: that there is a reasonable option. What schw15 just posted about the Forster 300 seater die.
I have found out there is a veritable hive of of Long Range shooters using the 300 NMI in my area. I am going to get tutored.

Does not get any better than that...

What barrel specs? I am going 32". 7/8ths or 3/4? Power went off after the storm, just came back on.

I have used Heavy Varmit, Heavy Palma and straight 1.25”. I’ll go for HV if I can get it. I also prefer 8 twist but haven’t seen a difference on target between the 8 and 9 twists. I suspect that the faster twist may prevail in transonic flight but haven’t played enough with the two to say for sure. For muzzle threads, 5/8 and up are all fine.
