Butches bore shine

I use a 2/3rds Butchs to 1/3rd Kroil mix, and it does everything I want at a match. There are better cleaners, but they also require something else be put back in the bore before firing like Lock-Eez, and then need a few fouler shots before the barrel is really ready to fire a group. Using this mix keeps my barrel fouling steady, and only requires 1 fouler shot, and at the end of the agg a light scrubbing with an abrasive gets me back to the start point. That's far more important to me than having a gleaming barrel after every group.

I only strip the bore completely on occasion. It's always carbon that needs removing. I'll run a few wet patches with BoreTech carbon remover and just let the rifle sit in the cradle. Every few hours, or whenever I go back into the basement, I'll run another soaked patch down the bore. Because I'm not in a hurray, I may leave the rifle for a few days with occasionally running a wet patch. After that soaking, I'll run a few tight patches of JB which completely removes all the carbon.

FWIW - "I read" that BoreTech left a barrel completely submerged in their carbon remover for months with no ill effect.

While ThorroClean is in liquid form, it contains abrasives - apparently from Iosso.
Thorroclean is from Iosso and does contain abrasives. I called and talked with them about it and they stated that the abrasives are very mild and break down very quickly. When I asked if it would increase throat erosion they said absolutely not and can be used as your regular cleaning solution. I trust Iosso and Thorroclean is pretty much all I use now. I have clean, happy barrels.
I wish more people would speak with the manufacturers to get information. They are usually very happy that someone is interested enough to call and provide lots of useful information.

Just yesterday at our 200 yard Club Match at Tomball, a fellow club member asked me what I was cleaning with.
I told him Butches Bore Shine, which is the only thing I have used since Butch brought it out years ago.
However, I did predicate its use on the fact that I was cleaning after every target, as I was shooting a 6PPC.
One other member laughed and said he had not cleaned his PRS Rifle all year.
So, in my opinion, if you are like the typical Benchrest Shooter who cleans the barrel after every target, Butches is great.
If you let the thing get so clogged up you can barely see through it, then a more aggressive regiment might be in order.
By the way. I was the only shooter cleaning at the Match, and I won.

Have you tried KREEN~? Made by KANO LABS, rhe people who make KROIL. If you lived closer I'd give you a little. No abrasives and not metal brushes, just a soak and brush with a nylon brush. Unfortunately it only comes in quarts. Absolutely the absolute best carbon remover I've ever experienced, period~!!!
My experienc has been with years of use in automotive applications (fuel Injectors). and two old rifles, a Win 1890 made in 1927 and a Win 1885 made in 1892

This stuff? https://www.kroil.com/product/kreen/

IMO BoreTech Eliminator is hard to beat. I also use their copper remover and carbon remover if the borescope indicates a need for them. I always use a bronze brush after a good soak. Minimizing carbon build-up is a process.
Agreed! I use the carbon cleaner & rimfire cleaner. I’ve tried the nylon brush but prefer the bronze brush instead. For some reason the nylon brush seems like it never really gets the bore clean and I swear that the black brush leaves particals of itself n the bore. Never really can get a patch to come out white on the exiting end.

I have not, But have used Kroil - which is good stuff.
The only reason I have Prolix is when my dad passed away he had a nearly full gallon jug of it
left over from his shooting days
I never even heard of the stuff and after using it thought
"Well DAD! why didn't you tell me!" lol
He tried many products and over the years we mainly stuck to
Hoppes 9 and Sweets being the most "Field Effective"
Since we would shoot so much out in the field we had to also clean out in the field
And wanted to get right back to shooting without using some 30 minute regimen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So me suddenly having a gallon jug of it I figured ya know what
I'm gonna try this stuff and if its snake oil why keep storing it?
Well................
What I found was.........2 wet patches of Prolix on a cleaning jag
then 1 bore brushing of Sweets
and my bore was sparkling clean as if I had just spent 30 minutes on it with Hoppes and Sweets
And since Prolix doesnt harm the bore, I've been using it since.
------------------
So basically within 5 minutes or less (3 operation then dry patch out)
I can clean any bore I have back down to bare metal.
It is the fastest stuff I have ever tried and really cannot believe how well it cleans every single time I use it.
------------------
The gallon jugs are expensive nowadays ($180) so I doubt anybody is trying the product.
Just relaying my experience with it.
------------------
Interesting that my stuff is green in color and the stuff shown on the net is blue like windex
So I wonder if there is any difference in their formula from mine to now? Dunno
Meaning maybe they put the "good stuff" in it back then
I do know Hoppes is not the same as when I first started using it.
I'll bet the color difference is likely due to some form of oxidation over time.

Butch’s is all I have used for years. This is how I do it and it cleans my barrels up just fine.

Push 2-3 wet patches down the bore and then let it work for about 15 min
Then use a bore brush with some Butch’s on it for 5-8 strokes
Then a dry patch down the bore to push out the fouling
Then 2-3 wet patches and another 15 min
Then a few dry patches to get it all out
Then a couple patches of Kroil and leave for 5-10 min
Then a couple dry patches and done.

Cleans barrels great for me.

Oops...you missed your relay.... o_O

Sweets changed their formula probably 20 years ago. I'm out.....

Duh....read what you quoted.

You'll win whatever argument you are having, because you are arguing with yourself.....

Or, fight with your cat.
