How light is too light?

Hello,
Shooting an 26", 8 twist 6BR Norma. It does well with 105 and 108 gn bullets, but would the 68 - say 90gn be too light for my 8 twist? I'm looking for a good short range flat base bullet but don't want to waste money on a box if it won't shoot well.
Thanks for the imput

This is about as good as I can get with 67 gr FB (******) custom bullets in my gun . UPS just tossed of some 105 gr Bergers and he did toss them smashed the end of the box . I have some 87 and 90 that I will be loading.

You're not there yet with your load. A 6BR with light bullets can ALMOST compete with a 6PPC and the same bullets. Seen it a bunch of times. Both fast and slow twists. Varget is not your best option for light bullets, IME. In fact, I've bought several 6BR's because the owner didn't get good results with them using light bullets and Varget powder. I really can't think of a single one that didn't get much better with n135 or h322. Made a few dollars doing exactly that over the years...fwiw.

That said, 31.0 varget and 90gr bergers can shoot pretty dang good but I've never got them quite with the 68-80's.

I started shooting 22 then 6MM BR's in the 70s mentoring by TJ Jackson and Jim Stickel helped me through the formative days when we made the cartridges out of the 308 basics,,,, then in the 80s, the Lapua brass started trickling into America and changed the reliability of the cartridge dramatically. My barrels in those days were 14 twist then in the early 90s I got interested in long range benchrest,,, I bought a 1500 count bucket of Walt Berger latest 105 grain Bullets (for 100 $$) to try in my latest 8 twist barrel and that was the beginning of much trial and error and experimentation with every bullet and Powder known to man..... Being a short range shooter I had a multitude of 62 to 70 grain Bullets to try in the eight twist barrel and I found it to shoot quite well with several premium boutique Bullets that were well-made well-balanced with good jackets and the room typical store-bought variations shot poorly or even vaporized on the way down Range so I'm hesitant to say that the 60 -75 grain variations will or will not shoot well. It depends on the quality of the bullet. You just have to try what you have and if they don't shoot well,,,, get better bullets.,,, roger

I have a 26" 1:7.5 twist barrel for my HP Silhouette rifle in 6BR.

At the two extremes, I shoot the Berger 115 VLD's for Rams (N150) and Sierra 70 grain Match Kings for Chickens (N130).

I'm not a benchrest shooter but the 70's have no problem grouping decently from the 1:7.5 twist barrel.

Best of luck finding your light-bullet load.

Dont know how short a range you mean but
70 gr Speer TNT's are nice bullets for the money
Especially a 500 pack
