Remington 700 VSSF in 22-250

Folks,
I'm looking for any information-pros / cons on a rifle I think is a model 700-VS.
A friend asked me to shoot it and see what I think of it. It's in a synthetic stock with a little wider forearm - stainless and fluted. Any help you can pass along will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time.

I own a 22-250 700-VS like the picture above. The only change I made to it was an aftermarket trigger. This rifle used to be go-to rifle for groundhogs. My load was 50grn Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets with H4895 and, Fed 210GM primer in Win. Brass. Shot really well. She's a safe queen now I'm sad to say.

I actually have one in 223. I fought & fought to get it to shoot. Finally put it into a HS Precision stock, & did a bit more load work, & now it shoots great!!!! One of my favorite rifles!!!!!!

Hindsight sure is 20/20, I can't believe I was dumb enough to let my 700 22-250 VSSF go. Luckily I kept my 22-250 VS and the 40-X. I guess I figured we would always be able to pick up another, sadly those days are gone. I really liked my VS and and had less attachment to the VSSF as it was new and unfired and would bring in more $$$ so off it went. I regret selling every gun I've had to move off due to needing money. The 22-250 is an amazing round in a good rifle and I will always have a few. To the OP I would definitely grab it up either for yourself or your friend, you won't be sorry. The older reloading manuals had a listing for H414 and 50s that absolutely where astounding. The pds and chucks sure didn't like it.

I had a 700 VSSF I bought in the mid 90's. It was in .308. It shot very well. It especially liked the Sierra 155 gr Palma bullets. Nice rifle. The stock was a little flexy though. In 2016 I used it as a donor rifle for a 6.5x47L project (Jeff Walker built it). The 6.5x47L iteration shoots great too.

This thread has got me to thinking how much I really appreciate my earlier Remington rifles. One thing I always wondered though was why didn't Remington ever offer a sort of poors man's 40x for the varmint hunter and offer it as a single shot 6br in their 700 action, they could of called it VSSSS if they used stainless steel. Sorry just rambling I guess. Y'all have inspired me to clean the copper out of my 26" PSS in .223 even though it isn't a .22-250 it has still gotten it's share of pds out yonder with Starkes bullets. It's time I started treating it better than a rented mule because in spite of coppering bad it shoots pretty good. After all it is the rifle that made me fall in love with that H-S palm swell.

The earlier model released was a VS SF. It had the fluted barrel, HS Precision stock black with grey spider web no palm swells.
The second generations was the VS SF II. It had a fluted barrel with the flutes black, and the HS Precision stock black with green spider web dual palm swells and dual front sling studs.

I had a Rem 700 VS in .223 that loved those Starke bullets. Too bad they're not made any more.

I have a a VSSF-P in .22-250 . The ported model . I bought it back in ‘98 and ran 133 rounds thru right after I got it and packed it away in the safe ever since. I’m planning on pulling it out and raising hell with the crows this fall.
I bought it at the advice of a friend who had one, he said you could see the hits better.
I’m wondering why I don’t hear more about the ported model?

I have owned a number of 700 VSSF's, two 22-250's, a 308 Win, and a 7mm RM. All of them shot EXTREMELY well. Still have the 308, 7mag sold to my son, one 22-250 rebarreled to Ackley Improved because I felt the NEED for Speed. I also in the past owned a 25-06 sendero and one in 22-250 configuration, both were tack drivers as well. Sadly I don't own most of them any more. My standard 22-250 liked 50 grain ballistic tips on top of varget, the last 22-250 loved 52 grain ELD's on top of Shooters World Precision (which I used to use when the price was reasonable).

I had a very similar version mine came in an HS precision stock tan- woth the black spider web. It also had that black finish on the action.and fluted barrel, this was before x-mark pro trigger. The finish was a shinny black not the under body primer they spray the SPS's rifles with hahaha.
It was a 22-250 and it was the absolute worst shooting rifle i ever owned.
I worked on all sorts of different reloads and that thing would scatter shots all over the target.
I just got rid of it. I dont have time for that nonsense.
This was back in 2008.
Back then it was hit or miss with Big Green
It was a shame, and an oddity, something was definitely wrong with the barrel

Folks,
Last week I got a chance to go to the range (100 yards) and shoot a few loads to see what this VSSF II likes. Started with some Nosler 40 Varmageddon-then the same in 50s plus some 50 Ballistic Tips and fianlly Sierra 52 grain match bullets. The very best group was one jagged hole of the Sierras. 35.3 grains on H380 and a cartridge base to ogive of 2.11. A little less then.500.
Now , I see what she likes so we can start dating, with the intention of going steady with benefits (1-hole groups) !!!
Have a safe Holiday weekend and enjoy yourselves.

This is a photo of the Rem 700 VSF. I had one in 22/250 with a 14 twist. Shot real good. I didn't care much for the stock so I replaced it. rem vsf.png
