Sometimes seat depth can cause that one out as well.I see where Jack Neary states that dropping your charge by .1 or .2 will cure this. Do you find this to work most of the time? I know I will have to try it. ;]

Or quite a few other things. Or if it’s the first shot?If it's the last shot I wonder if it's due to "bench manners"? Or mirage coming off barrel?
If the shot is not good enough to be in the group...it's not good enough to be a sighter.Or quite a few other things. Or if it’s the first shot?
No matter how I clean my barrels, I’m never firing for a group with a clean barrel. Always fouling shot or some folks call them sighters. I guess they could be both.
As I clearly said ‘ some folks call them sighters’If the shot is not good enough to be in the group...it's not good enough to be a sighter.
1-8 twist - 105 VLDs“There are only a few things that will compel a bullet to take the exact same path to the target as the one before……
But there are countless things that will cause it not too”
As for your groups, what bullet are you shooting?
I put all of my fouling shots in the "bunker"....never on the target. Fouling shots on the target only tell you that you've dirtied the barrel x amount of times and can cause confusion with other test shots if you l;ose track of which are the fouling shots. As I clearly said ‘ some folks call them sighters’
Well, I’m not ‘some folks’ . I call them foulers. I don’t pay much mind to where the first couple go. It also depends a lot on the rifle. I have a rifle (not a bench rest) that unless I’ve put 5 rounds through it, it’s no good. Never figured it out and have no real interest in why. (Remington 700P in 308)
The only saving grace is that years ago I was given maybe 700 factory 175gr cartridges. So on the very rare occasions I may take it to the range I always grab 5 of those to start with. Not so pleasant on my shoulder. But then suddenly my hand loads shoot as well as I or that rifle can, which is OK at best.
Once I started with 30BR’s I really lost interest in other cartridges. I’m strictly a 100 yard bench shooter and haven’t hunted in many decades.
My garmin showed 2780 fps, it states around 2880 on the main chart. I guess this Varget is slower than that tested. I guess I should add some smoke? I wonder how much I would have to go up to get to that speed? My primers look great w no hard bolt lift., so I have got room.I assume that’s a 105 Berger.looking at the first group on the upper left, I would say the Rifle was no where near in tune.
The bottom left, I would say you simply missed the condition, but without actually seeing you shoot it, I would just be guessing.
When shooters say drop its tenth out two if you are getting 4-1, but I think that apples if you are in the upper load window.
You are no where near that.
Well everyone can do whatever they feel is good for themI put all of my fouling shots in the "bunker"....never on the target. Fouling shots on the target only tell you that you've dirtied the barrel x amount of times and can cause confusion with other test shots if you l;ose track of which are the fouling shots.
Good luck and stay safe.
I agree with bench manners as often the culprit regardless of what order the shot was.If it's the last shot I wonder if it's due to "bench manners"? Or mirage coming off barrel?
