Does weighing and measuring rim thickness of the 22lr help with fliers and tightening up groups?
NO!Does weighing and measuring rim thickness of the 22lr help with fliers and tightening up groups?
Only AOL length sorting has proven to me to be the only viable means to sort ammo that works.Does weighing and measuring rim thickness of the 22lr help with fliers and tightening up groups?
My current CX bought in April using .005 as the margin of separation I have been seeing a majority of three different groups. and this is only with a 0.005 separation. for example, measurements are 0.710,0.715 & .0720 65% are spread between 0.715 & 0.720Lee, how does a typical box(50) breakdown in number of groups of ammo? What is the length range variation that can make up a group of ammo?
Lee, how are you measuring the OAL? Just to the driving bands. My current CX bought in April using .005 as the margin of separation I have been seeing a majority of three different groups. and this is only with a 0.005 separation. for example, measurements are 0.710,0.715 & .0720 65% are spread between 0.715 & 0.720
I will say this that Lapua's quality as far as AOL is concerned has been improving year after year if not month after month. 6 years ago, it wasn't unusual to see 4-5 different AOL groups with more than 0.025 separation!

Measurements are just at the Ogive. I use a MKII gauge unfortunately it is no longer being made.Lee, how are you measuring the OAL? Just to the driving bands.
Also, what gauge are you using?
thanks
Lee, I had one of these. I tried separating by OAL (ogive really). When I was done I went to the range. I shot about 4 shots of the middle range and then shot both extremes, short and long into that same group. All went into the same group. Did it several times, same results. I sold the gizmo.Measurements are just at the Ogive. I use a MKII gauge unfortunately it is no longer being made.

I believe this to be as true as I know the sun is going to rise tomorrow. There is simply no practical substitute for buying better ammo, everything else has been tried before.
What is the diameter of your gauge?Measurements are just at the Ogive. I use a MKII gauge unfortunately it is no longer being made.

Hey John,Proving something to yourself does nothing towards proving it to the rest of the world, unless you have data it becomes an opinion.
