Kernel Bounce Fix

I have Area 419 upgrade bits for my Auto Trickler and love their beautifully machined items but have always had a small problem with powder granule bounce, especially with Varget.
It was a slow, wet afternoon and as I was using my 6” tweezers once again to fish out bounced granules from around the platen I thought I would try to see if putting something soft in the bottom of the cup would help.
Carefully cut a piece of 3M blue masking tape to cover the centre of the cup bottom and then 4 more pieces cut in half {width wise} to just line the rest of the bottom and up the sides a bit.
Reset the zero and dumped a load, no splash, dumped into case and found powder sticking to tape just a bit, about 0.3gr… Wiped down the tape with a paper towel and second try, still few grains sticking…
I then sprinkled a very small amount of graphite powder into the cup and rubbed it in with my finger and Presto! No more stuck grains and No more Splash. :)

Maybe I am wrong about this (I don't have the A419 cup) but I think it is too short. I was fortunate enough to have a great friend make a cup for my V3 that is much taller and has a longer handle. It's rare that I get kernel bounce now.
I think Ingenuity Precision may have the ultimate fix for when the stray kernel with his smaller platen for the A&D scale.
@Fire Dog my wife had some thin sticky back felt from Hobby Lobby that may work better than the 3M tape.

That may be a good alternative as well as long as the powder grains don't stick to the felt...
Again, just try it out and if you have a sticking problem than try rubbing a bit of graphite powder in to seal the pores and give a bit of lubricity. {I used door lock powder}
I have just loaded 200rds and not one stray piece of powder... WOO HOO!
One less nuisance thing to deal with while loading.
Others have mentioned Ingenuity's cup and I will get one eventually when my long wait for their system is finally done and my order is delivered. In the mean time this works just fine and I do like the turned metal cup that Area 419 makes... Just wish Ingenuity would make theirs out of metal such as a casting or even a CNC cut piece. I'd pay the extra cost... Just not a fan of printed plastic... or the static problems. {:~/
As for the smaller platen I have that with the A-419 triangular platen and it is not the fact that a granule may be laying on the platen {this happens rarely} and skewing the weight, but just the often as many as 10-15 or more bits laying around the outside of the platen at the end of a loading session.

The problem that I see with the A-419 powder cup is that it is so slick and the curve of the side walls would benefit from being a bit steeper to turn back the dropped charge. The slick surface and the round curve of the cup bottom just aids the ejection of the occasional granule.
Beautifully made though.... If I had access to a sand blast I would try to roughen the interior of the cup as I think that would be a solution as well but the tape has taken the bounce out of the bottom and is working a charm.

Didn't think of that and I have a can of rubberized undercoat spray out in the garage from a wheel well repair job...
HUMM..!!
At least the tape idea didn't need the masking off and clean up after as well as I imagine a bit less weight gain to the cup. I would have done that perhaps if I had seen your suggestion first before my "I've had enough" moment and the masking tape was handy in a cupboard and quick to try and has worked well.

Judging by the weight of the shot glass, I think part of that was intended. Puts the tare zero at about the scale's mid-range of measurement. I may be overthinking that though.

Ingenuity precisions cup is a soft bottom and you don’t have that problem. It’s worth a look into.
