Congrats on a very Nice rifle! Those guns were beautifully made. I had one years ago, said 1912 on the receiver if I recall. Very fun to shoot, recoil very mild.
I had some of the blanks, and some of the wooden practice rounds if I recall. I made a new front sight
for mine, and several customers guns. I can't remember wether it was a higher or lower they needed?

The high or low front sight was determined by the Brass Stock Disk and/or the upside down red and white range decal (cracked, peeled, or worn away with time) on the right side of the stock near the butt!! The Overslag (Hold Over) number (or no stamped number) determined the front sight height or some cross mark stamp on the blade!!

Herzo:
Your Swedish Mauser was made in Germany!!!! The Carl Gustafs factory in Sweden, was still working on the machines and tooling (Gearing Up)!! 38,600 M96 were made from 1899-1900 at the Waffenabrik Mauser facility in Oberndorf, Germany!!!

? The weapon is clearly stamped at the source of manufacture, and the date clearly exceeds the 1900 date. The German Waffenfabric were stamped "Oberdorf", not CGS. If the weapon was stamped CGS or Husquvarna then they were made in Sweden.

I was replying to Herzo 1899 M96 with his serial number (Addressing Herzo, see my original post reply)!!! Not the OP Preacher 1906 CG M96!!!

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE 1900 MANUFACTURING YEAR?????
There were CG Manufactured prior to 1900!!! M94 (1898-1932)!!! And, there were 43,278 CG w/CREST M96 (1898-1900), 40,733 Oberndorf, no CREST, M96 (1899-1900)!! One of the most rare M96 manufactured is a Husky 1943 M96!! ONLY ONE WAS MADE (SN 695810)!!! To your point, look at the attachment!!! I know the DIFF!!!

The 1900 Oberndorf (German City location of the Waffenabrik Mauser Factory) was a German made Swedish Mauser M96 (Serial Number ID) converted to a CG-63 (made in 1965 at CG)!
The 1908 CG is an All Matching Number M96B!!! (B for threaded bullet shredder attachment)!! That rifle is dead on target!! Bright and shiny bore that seen very few rounds in its short service life (double arsenal storage stickers, 1946 and 192X something- number with a curved top) The stock is well worn (gouges, scratch, marks, filthy oil/grease film coat)!!! And was never fired after coming out of storage!!! To much packed and caked cosmoline between the stock and barrel!! It would have started smoking after a few shots!!! That rifle came out a crate full of Arsenal storage M96s with the Samco International Import name on the barrels!!

This is about the Swedish Small Ring Mauser!!!!
Don't get me started with LARGE RING 98 MAUSERS!! I know, there are certain calibers, variants, Crests, and SN sequences I WOULD NOT TOUCH OFF WITH 100 FOOT STRING TIED TO THE TRIGGER!!!!!
But the well built 98s, I wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger after checking with a GO/NO GO guage and inspecting the action and barrel!!!

Apparently, ISS, you know your Large Ring Mauser 98 actions!!! The M98 stories and history is a much, much broader subject matter than the Swedish Small Ring Mausers!!!!

Here is a true story of an event that occurred alone the Swedish border during WW2!!! A German scouting party came upon a small Swedish guard post!!! Both parties drew arms!!! After a few minutes, the German Captain, unarmed, stepped forward!!! A Swedish Lt, unarmed, then stepped forward and the two officers met half way face to face!!! The German Captain asked, WHAT IS STOPPING US FROM OVER RUNNING YOUR POST??? WE OUT NUMBER YOU 2 TO 1!!!! The Swedish Lt replied, I GUESS I'M GOING TO HAVE TO ISSUE EACH GUARD ANOTHER ROUND!!!!!

The true long range accuracy of the Swedish Mausers was well know throughout Europe at that time!!!! Sweden was a neutral nation then and controlled the high grounds in that mountain country!!!!! Now you know why they had the long rifles with the 6.5mm bullets!!! The 6.5x55 round was developed in the very late 1800s!!! You could call this the dawn of the LR Shooter age, born from the Swedish military small arms war machine!!!

And all you long range shooters, you better thank Paul Mauser!!!! Almost all modern day, bolt actions are based on his design!!!!! The Springfield M1903s, Winchesters, and Remingtons stole his design in the very early 1900s!!

Me, I'm an FN or VZ24 fan for builds. I have a VZ in 404 Jefferys and an FN in a switch barrel in 300 and 375 H&H a smith in Iowa did. I got a DST set and kicker from NECG I need fitted one of these days. Too many projects for the years I have left on the planet. With the two rifle limit in most of Africa; my plan was to take it and my 500 3" NE and have every option covered.

I love the well built 98's, but my all-time favorite is still the Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester. My heavy in a bolt rifle is one Duane Wiebe built me in 458 RUM about 30 years ago.

I have a Lubeck Mauser from WWII, it was from the estate of his Widow who was liquidating assets to help pay for moving to assisted living. She was unable to maintain independence.
I handled to firearms collection by researching/identifying, cleaning/inspecting and pricing them back in the late 90s.
Managed to net her 3 times what the LGS offered her, with two remaining unsold.
The S&W Model 27 needed refinishing but otherwise sound, and no one had interest in an old beat up “Kraut” rifle.
She gave me the Mauser for my efforts, and said mail me a check for $150 for the Smith.
I bought dies, Speer bullets, and some casings for the Mauser and shot just under 100 rds and enjoyed the history/provenance, just like my Garands.
Sat in my safe for 15 or so years afterwards, but brought her back out a few times to introduce young Club Members to the real thing vs their video games. They mostly love the Garands, however.

I was getting $75 for M96s at gun shows!!! I'm a gun show nut looking at all the C&R rifles!! I've been at hundreds of 1000 plus table shows!!! I do my research before buying!!!! I know a lot about the Mauser military rifles, the Springfield M1903s, and Remington 700s!!! My brother was the chairman of one of the 1000 table show sponsored by his gun club!!! Been to Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma shows!!! Back in those days, you could pick up C&Rs without a background check!!! I knew where the ATF and FBI boys were at!!! I also seen them in cars, watching for the parking lot transaction!!!! Know when to make a deal on a purchase!!! Get 200 off a 1200 gun!!!
I kicking myself for not buying the 44 Magmatic, in the presentation wooden case with 2 clips and ammo box!!! Yeah, the Dirty Harry Special!!! MAKE MY DAY, PUNK!!!

$200,000 to Mauser for the M1903 design and speed clips!! That's a drop in the bucket!!! John Moses Browning, the 50 Caliber machine gun!!! They left it in he BAR!!! The 30-06 semi auto!!! The Rifles that took out Bonnie and Clyde!!! And like I said, Winchester and Remington stole Paul's design!!!

GotRDid: Do you remember SHOTGUN NEWS!!! The Newspaper sized weekly magazine of new and used guns, ammo, scopes, and misc shooting supplies!!! I used to go into Charles gun store (a gun store built in a double car attached garage) in the evenings or Saturday and order stuff from that magazine!!! Those days were crazy, 10% FFL licence fee on top of gun purchases!!! He had hundreds of 98s for his personal collection!!! I purchased my 182 series stainless steel Mini-14 for $325 NIB!!! 700 BDL VS in 7-08 for $275 NIB!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!! And the quality of those factory firearms were great then!!! I pick up Remington and Rugers today, and hand them right back because of the poor quality!!! Ruger screwed up on the Mini when they went to the side lug ejector!! What a piece of crap!!!

Joe Jelenek out of Illinois (I believe) would sell inert munitions in various configurations, such as dummy rounds for Training in .50 BMG, 20MM, and 30MM projectiles as well.
Still have a box of 10 rds of .50 Cal from those years.

Here is a very rare gun!!! My brother has a M1911 Government Colt Calvary 45!!! It has the Calvary loop for a lanyard that is still attached!! The 4 clips have lanyard loops with the original lanyards too!!! And some issued 45 auto rounds, head stamped 12!!! All in the original military issued Calvary leather Large "U. S." branded stamp, large flap holster, leather clip pouches, and leather belt!! VERY, VERY RARE!!!! If you find one, generally the loop is broken off!!
