New Lapua 144gn 6.5mm MaxRange Target OTM Bullet GB582

If I’m not mistaken, this spec is same as Berger 144 Long Range Hybrid Target. So maybe it is technically already available. Nammo Group/Capstone owns both companies. The Bergers shoot just fine out of my 8 twist 260 AI and both my 8 twist and 7.5 twist 6.5 Creedmoors.

It makes me wonder why Lapua bothered making it... I guess we'll see when it comes out. I've shot some great groups with 123 and 139 scenars.

maybe they are changing the nose a little to make them more like a Sierra 142 gr. so that they will do better at very long ranges. Heard guys complain about going subsonic with the Berger's. I don't think Lapua would make them exactly the same.

Interesting comment. I quit the Berger 144 because they couldn't shoot with the 142 Sierra at a mile.

I tested a very small batch of Lapua 144 max long range. The 2 bullets, the 144 berger LRHT and the Lapua 144 are not identical. The CB is close in theory. But in the range it’s not the same... With the same load, I had 20m/s more with the lapua. The groups were also better during the tests at 200m. But not enough bullets to properly test up to 1300m. The lack of information, such as Lapua’s drag equations or AB’s custom curves made me prefer the shepherd for now during my last match (Lord of Steel, 1345 yards max)

What is your barrel twis rate?

Thanks tcob68 The Lapua is on the left and the Berger s on the right from Midway The Lapua does look better, a little thicker in the nose? Have to wait until the 100# are in stock for that price. $64.78 for 100# 670 B.C.

I'll be watching this with interest to see if Lapua add 7mm and 6mm variants to this new line of bullets. I just tested the 7mm 180gr Scenar L with great results, although I'm sure Lapua could improve the BC from that old design. They do make a very consistent bullet so hopefully that translates into the MaxRange Target.
