Reamer regrinding question

Speaking hypothetically: if I had a new JGS reamer that had more freebore than desired and I sent it back to jgs with dummy rounds for it to be ground for a shorter freebore to match those dummy rounds, would that be just as good as getting a whole new reamer made? I guess what I'm asking is the potential for accuracy just as good either route?

Yes it would be as good.

Should be fine
If the company knows what theyre doing. (JGS and Manson know what they're doing)
all they're doing is precisely "removing material" for a new dimension
and not a difficult dimension to hit neither
As opposed to a resharpen which can potentially reduce diameter.
--------------
The more I chamber though the more I agree with LVLAaron in getting reamers with zero freebore and use a throating reamer to set the throat for any particular bullet
I did this to one of my existing reamers, just ground down the throat area so it would not cut
then got a throating reamer to cut that area and set the tolerances for any bullet.
makes it nice if you want to change to a different bullet style
(IE: you can then setback, rechamber w/ no freebore, then rethroat)

It would be just as good but probably won’t cost any less than a new one and might take longer to get back.

Thanks for the props guy!

Resharp time at JGS is the same as new tools, generally, but the cost is significantly less.

We charge 65% of the cost of a new standard tool (even if it's a custom resharp) so if the custom tool would run $310 in HSS and the resharp would be $149.50. (if it's not a tool we manufactured it's 85% of the standard price $195.50)

Lead times are currently about as low as they get around here, now is a good time to order.

Holler at me if you have questions!

I'm impatiently waiting on a couple reamers and a HS Gauge. I know that you are doing the best that you can.
