6BRA load data

Just hard to go past the almost universal load for the 6BR/BRA of 30gr Varget and Sierra 107's....
That 29.8 & 30 are real keepers...! Now for some 10 shot groups at 300yd & 600yd.:D
I found some love at 30.4 gn Varget. Need to look at this a bit more - didn't have enough of this Lot to load for 3 X 600.

Not everyone chooses Varget for a BR-A, I decided to give a go last sept as I mentioned earlier, it tuned pretty easily at 500 yards. I took to a 1 k match last weekend.
It shot well.

Is that + .009 a jam on those VT 103’s?
That 31.3 of Varget looks to work very well. CCI 450’s?
How did the 103’s hold up over a K ?

Yes, those are in the lands .009 beyond touch, l’m currently running BR-4 but the load will shoot either -4 or the 450’s
The load held up pretty decent, I had a few issues with managing conditions.

Ah yes, with “conditions” perfect the 103’s will do the job and I have shot a lot of them myself but find that they suffer a bit at that distance with wind and mirage and hence now gone back to 107’s for my F Open 6BR.
I did shoot a 200.14 at 600 with 103’s and second string was 100.9

I acquired a Mod 70 in an Anschutz prone stock and a Kreiger 1/7.5 30" barrel in 6 BRA from the owner who had been letting me use it for MR/LR. Mostly 105Berger 29.8gr H4895 and a CCC 450 with Lapua brass.
Now that I have it am loading Varget and a SMK 107. .272 neck
I worked up 28.5/29.0/29.5/29.8/30.1 and 30.4 Varget loads touching jam.
Velocity was shy of 2800. H4895 had been more 2850-2890 fps with 105 Berger.
The prior owner had load notes using his varget at 30.1 and getting about about 2850-2890, but MY Varget needs 31.0 to get to get the 107 SMK to 2850. -.020 jump is the load I plan to use in a couple weeks for a MR match.

I have less experience with Varget so I guess lot to lot it is not the best consistency.
Check humidity

Anyone experiment with Ramshot Biggame or Staball 6.5, in 6br or bra? I have limited testing with Staball 6.5 in a 6br. I'm not one to use the common powders, occasionally I'll shoot H4895 in the 2930ish range. I've done a pressure ladder with Staball 6.5 up to 37grns, 31" 7.5 twist btw, but I haven't shot for groups or topped out on pressure yet. At 37grns, a 109 berger, and a CCI 450, had me at 3073fps with no pressure on a fresh barrel. My typical load is 34.1-34.3grns of PP2000MR, my last barrel, a 30" 8 twist, landed on 34.1 with 105 hybrids at 3068fps ES of 2 SD of 0 for 5 shots at about .175" at 100yrds. I'm curious about others experience with Staball 6.5, Ramshot Biggame, and even CFE223. I have plenty of H4895 and some Varget, also 8208xbr, but I like to use the odd powders and chase velocity and accuracy. I shoot between 30 and 85 ish degrees, so I don't really care about powder stability, as long as it stays in a node, I'm not too lazy to track the velocity loss or gain.

I’m contemplating trying 6.5 stable in my 6bra,
Surprisingly it’s really good in my 22arc with excellent case fill, r16 works well but if you’re chasing speed it just too bulky.

6.5 stable seems to be the R26 for the pipsqueak cartridges.

This is kinda what I'm seeing, it's a neat powder, because you can use 38grns of Staball 6.5, in a straight 6br, with Lapua brass. I went down this path really as a replacement for RL17, even though PP2000MR is almost a direct replacement, I was looking for other options to test. I'll probably run 3 other pressure ladders while settling this barrel in, probably CFE223, Leverevolution, and Biggame, then go back to testing Staball 6.5, after the velocity levels out. If it proves to be a terd combo, I'll go back to PP2000MR or H4895. Barrel life on a straight 6br is so good, you can test a lot, and not really be concerned about anything. One of my old BRs was a 29" Kreiger on a 700 action, went through 4400 rounds of 34grns of RL17 and 105 hybrids, and I sold it to a fellow that was perfectly fine with it like that, for his purposes, because it was still a half minute shooter. Ramshot Grand is the big case replacement for RL26, with N565 right on its heels.

This is 32.9 Varget in an Alpha 6 BRA case. Left, as poured, no drop tube, about a third up the neck. Right, I actually used an electric tooth brush to buzz the case and get it settled - the level here is just at the neck/shoulder junction, which would work with my FB (0.120"), but it seems like a very stout load - as mentioned, proceed with caution.
