Stiller Predator Bolt Question

I'm in the process of getting the parts together to have a 7MM PRC build, the barrel is on the way. I have a Stiller Predator Action I bought many years ago with a .595 bolt face for a .338 Lapua. I need a long action magnum bolt for this build, and I'm looking about $400 for a new bolt. I know a ring can be installed to make the bolt face smaller, not sure on the cost and something tells me it's probably not the best way to go. I can probably sell my bolt to lower the cost, which might end up being a hassle. Are there any options I might be missing? I have Remington 700 magnum long actions which can be used for the build instead of the Stiller Action, but I didn't want to go that route. Thanks.

You would probably be ahead financially if you would sell your action complete and buy another action with the correct size bolt face.

You got me thinking. Depending on how difficult it is with the early generation Stiller Predator action, I might decide to make this a switch barrel rifle. I'd be utilizing the .595 bolt I have, along with the .532 bolt I would need to buy for the 7 mm PRC. I already have the barrel for a .338 Lapua, the the barrel I ordered for the 7mm PRC is the same contour. This is an expensive hobby.

It is expensive. Let me help you spend some more of your money. Switch barrel hunting rifles sound good, but it seems that the inconvenience of changing barrels, sighting in the rifle, and at some point in time switching back to the other barrel, just plain gets old. You might consider buying another action and avoiding all the hassle. There, that didn't hurt MY wallet one bit. :D

LOL ;) This isn't going to be a hunting rifle, and the barrel won't be switched much. What does it entail to get a Stiller Predator set up this way? How much will accuracy suffer?

Assuming that the gunsmithing is done correctly, and you get good barrels, the accuracy won't suffer at all. You should talk to Stiller regarding their actions, and what it will take to get them to feed the different cartridges you are considering. That's where you may run into a skunk in the wood pile. I don't have any experience with their actions, but there may be significant differences in the action that you have, and its ability to feed both cartridges. It would be a waste of money to get a separate bolt for your action only to find out that it won't work for both cartridges. There's lots of things to consider.

Thanks for the info. I have no problem setting it up as a single shot rifle and not feed it from a magazine at all. I might give them a shout during the week, I figured this would be a great place for info, and get me thinking about any other questions I might have for them.

I should have a 7mm Krieger barrel tomorrow. I'm still on the fence with the bolt. I originally bought the Stiller Predator .338 bolt face receiver for a .338 Lapua build along with a Rock 5R 30" 9.4 twist barrel. Life got in the way and it sat. I'm flip flopping now. ;) The switch barrel rifle really interests me.

PTG has bolts for about $350 but their rep is not great from what I read.

I shoot these three on the same rifle currently
