Cooper Update

Figured they were headed downhill. Emails about a part clued me in several months ago.

As suspected the days of small caliber Coopers is history. Even if still offered, at current prices it is cheaper to go the custom route.

Found on their first page:
"The Future of Cooper is Coming.

Cooper Rifles of Arkansas is merging timeless craftsmanship with state-of-the-art advancements to create the next generation of rifles."

ABSOLUTELY not interested in "the next generation of rifles", even if they are at the prices of the original, real Coopers, which they won't be, not even close.

There are still used or nearly new Coopers out there. Parts could be a problem eventually. Remember the Wickliffe rifles? It is this really nice rifle "what" was made "just down the street".

I asked about a part and was told that they didn't really have time right then. I should get back to them in a few months, maybe they can help me then.....

That level of service is just off the charts... Beautiful little rifles, gone. That doesn't seem like a good business model to me.
I have, and have had some suspicions for a long time. I feel like in a few months it will be "contact us in a few months", and then when you do, it will be "contact us in a few more months", which will eventually be "we don't make parts for THOSE rifles". At that point, should that come, my attitude towards them will be "I hope you tank, you *corksockers*.

Danny

In a few months Cooper rifles may be just something we talked about in the past. Hope I'm wrong but looks like the way they're headed. I didn't see a single rifle with a wood stock and a 22-250 was the smallest cartridge offered. Lots of big boomers though. We should all send them an email and tell them "thoughts and prayers" and RIP.

I sent them an email (see above). I had sent them a similar email before, but never received a reply. I do not expect a reply this time either, but if I get one, I will send them a response like you outline.

What I don't get, is if they are just going to build completely new and different rifles, why did they buy Cooper and flush the product and name right down the Archie Bunker "terlet".

I order some parts for my m21 from Glenn at Cooper on Monday , and asked if the 21 was ever going to be built again. The answer was no, but he did assure me they had enough parts for a long time. I'm just glad to get what I could.

I had a chance to buy a really pretty little Cooper .223 at a FNRA event several years ago. I had the high bid but there was a reserve on it I didn't know about. Got a call and was asked to meet the reserve + transfer fee and it was mine. I just didn't have the extra coin in the budget. My bad.....

I've had a few Coopers and always thought they were a cut above the average factory built rifle. The older ones came with nice wood stocks and for extra $$ you could get some really nice wood and some extra bling like grip caps and such. They would make you about any thing you wanted or could afford. Now they are priced well above what a very nice Montana built rifle would have cost and no small calibers. Owned by Nighthawk now they will probably turn tactical before long.
