Big Piney March 8, 2025 600 yard F Class results

We had a big turnout of 49 shooters for our March 8 match including some we haven't seen in a while. The weather was decently warm for Big Piney weather this time of year, but wasn't as nice as the day before and that made it seem chillier than it probably was. It was fairly clear and sunny at times, but also fairly cloudy at times. The wind was definitely tricky most of the time, and the mirage was horrible at times, and just bad at others.

The wind and mirage definitely made Keith Beasley's 400/19X look impressive as well as Bill Drewel's 26X count to take the X pot in Open. I'm not sure how Bill saw the X ring well enough to hit it that many times, lol. We had a bigger than usual F/TR field with lots of good shooting there as well topped off by Keith Conrad's 398/17X, and the top 3 shooters seperated by only 3 points. There was also plenty of good shooting in Varmit/Tactical, with Jake Wolfe shooting a 393/15X to take the win, and the X Pot. He was the only class winner to also win the X pot.

We also had a good turn out of Junior shooters (Harper Wheeler, Emily Greer, Logan Murray, and Levi Hodges) and for the first time I can remember had at least one Junior in every class. They all shot amazingly well in rough conditions. It is nice to see more Juniors!

We had 14 shooters (7 teams) participate in the Team Money Match after the regular match with the team of Lori Greer and Bob Weyrauch winning the match.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and who helped set up, take down, and run the match! Hope to see everyone next month!

Yes John, the target looked like soup most of the time.

A young shooter I would like to praise is seven-year old (almost eight;)) Harper Wheeler, who is wearing a pink jacket standing in front of me in the picture, above. Although she experienced difficulty operating the bolt on her Savage rifle, which forced her to get out of position between shots, she still managed very respectable 194/7X and 197/7X scores. Way to go Harper, and keep up the good work!

I heard this was your last match up here and that you are moving to Texas. It’s been a great pleasure sharing the range with you over the years. I hope you wind up close to a range down there. Best of luck on your move and we’ll miss you.

Yes, David – we will be moving to Georgetown, TX where we will be within a few miles of my son, my grandson, granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren. They felt that at our age we needed to be closer to family. We are looking forward to enjoying especially the little ones.

But I will definitely miss my shooting buddies around here. I have been shooting F-Class for 11 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, I will be looking for places to shoot and compete in Texas. I hope to find a range or field where I can setup my ShotMarker target at 600 yards. I had/have special permission to setup my ShotMarker at the Bench Rest Club and it was great.

I really appreciate your sentiments.

I enjoyed the match immensely. Really great people and a nice facility. The conditions switched quickly and with all the different wind patterns it made for an interesting match.
I enjoyed meeting everyone, Justus Greer, Jake Wolf, Alex Muller, Dave Glick, and several others. I will definitely be back to Big Piney. Obviously y’all are doing something right, that type of participation for a monthly club match is amazing.
