It keeps the reamer centered , but will cut slightly oversized, while the 6 flute reamer gets deflected from the 5R flutes. Several multi-page threads here about 5R/Chambering in general. Happy to discuss privately.Having only chambered one barrel I still have lots to learn, what's the wax paper for?
Did you contact Manson about the issue?I had trouble with a brand new 300prc Mason reamer and a carbon proof barrel chattered almost the whole way that was the first one for me in 100 barrels boy does it sux too
Thanks for the info, I have much to learn. My mentor told me to stay away from 5R because of the chatter problem. Seems like someone needs to make 5 fluted reamers. It keeps the reamer centered , but will cut slightly oversized, while the 6 flute reamer gets deflected from the 5R flutes. Looks like the definition of a "rabbit hole"... Very nice!Probably the hardest chamber I've done. 300 WSM with a long freebore. Had to keep wax paper around the top of the body for every cut or it would get squirrely. In the end it sure turned out nice and I'm glad Dave turned us on to taking photos like this.

You really need to put that picture on a T-shirt with some witty saying..Probably the hardest chamber I've done. 300 WSM with a long freebore. In one of the best threads, I've ever read on the Internet, there is an explanation of a optical collimation device.

Then a little further down, the patent from 1974.
