Hey Feller, I built one back in the 80s to run strictly sub sonic with the Sierra 300vld, had Douglas do a 7 twist which was as fast as they could go. 20" barrel on a 40x, would have to go back to my notes for the exact dose of Little Gun but I remember the starting load I used jumped up to around 13 or 1400fps with no signs of pressure. Backed it down to 1050fps and with a Knight can off my H&K 45acp was the quietest suppressed rifle I've ever heard. Could actually hear the firing pin hit, set up a target at 50yds and made a 3 shot group in the teens, I was tickled to death. Ordered a 500 box of the Sierra's and moved out to 100yds and sent 3 down, hurried down there and they all hit sideways. Had spent 6mo and a thousand dollars and disappointed don't even describe it. Screwed the barrel off a set it in the corner and never looked back, later on a friend wanted to try the barrel and had good luck with 250gr flat base bullets and Little Gun, 2400, 5744...... food for thought, John

HP38 / W231 … Off the cuff, I would think that H110 / W296 would be better choice for 16” barrel. This is common powder also used in 300BO.

A small dash of the "DOT" powder or Alliant Unique if you can find it. I find these to be the quietest choices with the cleanest burn results suppressed.

I have found that accuracy lessens when the powder in the case "flops around".

Dont I want to find a powder that fills the case more?

That is true when it comes to full cases and supersonic performance but I use Unique almost exclusively in all my cartridges for subsonic use and I get incredible results! Take my 30-06 for example. I'm only using 9 grains of unique with a 245 gn cast bullet and get velo spreads under 10 fps. I can put 10 rounds on a 4" piece of steel at 154 yards (my max range at home) that's something like 20% or less case fill. It doesn't seem to be position sensitive at all. And the list goes on. I have a buddy who uses blue dot in his guns and they shoot outstanding with only a few grains of powder and no fillers. With Unique, as long as the bullet clears the barrel, you're good. I've gone down to 7 grains in 06 case and still shot just fine and under 800 fps.
