MEC Marksman question

I'll be buying a new press in the near future and the Marksman looks like a good option to me. I can't seem to find the dimension of the opening though. I would like to buy one that will load what I have and what I plan on loading for in the future (338 Edge w/ 300 Bergers). I was wondering if someone that has one would measure to see how long of a cartridge it would take? I would appreciate it. Just curious if I need to keep my eyes set on a Marksman or start looking elsewhere.

I grabbed a .338-.378 cartridge and installed the seating die, it would get the job done but with not much to spare. The .338-.378 tape measure about 3 3/4” opening of press from shell holder to top of press is about 3 7/8”

Mr. Wayne, you sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I really appreciate you. Thank you, sir.
Hey buddy I made a mistake!… it was late and I was tired but after I got in bed I got thinking ?
Why was I seeing part of the ram when it was all the way down? I almost got back outta bed but waited until I woke, couldn’t hardly sleep thinking about it lol anyways I put that together like a Rockchucker with the jam nut on top but on the Mec the nut hits the linkage, 7mm-08 is the biggest I’ve loaded on it. I pulled the handle and got another 1/4” or so… 4 1/8” there plenty to seat the 300’s I believe Shawn designed the .338 Edge off the big Weatherby case so you should be good to go.

I just looked that up, there was another guy in Idaho David Powers that built a wildcat similar to the Edge around the same time off the .338-.378 case Shawn used the Ultra mag case. I know you already knew that but I didn’t want to look to ignorant lol

Good catch on the nut being in the way.

Awesome! I really appreciate it. I noticed that little bit of ram sticking up, but I wasn't sure how it was supposed to be. I'll go ahead and pick up a Marksman. From everything I've seen, it seems like an excellent press. I do apologize for messing up a good night's sleep. Thank you, Wayne

It’s a super smooth press the shell holder floats but can’t come out unless you depress the spring, mine came with a stand and side holder for four dies. So far I really like it but haven’t used it a lot yet. Have lots of nice presses but been using a 4 die cheap Lee turret press for loading pistol rounds, right beside it is a lnl ap progressive and under the bench a new Dillon 750 … I know not a brain in my head. Hope you enjoy the MEC let us know what ya think

Will do. Right now, I'm loading everything on a Lee 4 hole turret. Once I get the Mec, I'm going to do like you and have the Lee dedicated for pistol only. I'll eventually pick up a progressive for pistol, but that's later on down the road. I'm looking forward to the Mec finding a spot on the bench. Thanks again for all of your help.

You will not be disappointed with the MEC. Very solid build, no flex at all. Get the mount while you’re at it, you will not be sorry.
